View Full Version : My Quest for an African Pigmy Hedgehog.

I had an African Pigmy Hedgehog a few years ago and his name was Lance-a-lot. Great pet and I had him for 3 years and I got him from an exotic pet store in Philly that has since closed.

I want another one but am having some trouble locating a store that sells them. I have checked the Petco's and Petsmart's but no luck. Hell, it has been hard to find a good Hamster there even, cause I want another one of them too. I bred Hamsters when I was in high school and DAMN they were fun pets.

Anyway, does anyone know of any exotic pet sotres in I would say the Central Jersey - North Jersey area where I may be able to locate one? Preferably one that is clean healthy and from a pet store that has a good reputation of selling good quality animals.

Any help anyone can offer will be appreciated. I have the cage picked out already and am just waiting to find a little friend to live in it.

Oh yeah, I have checked all over online and found a breeder about 30 miles north of me here but after a few emails I have heard back nothing. So I have not had much luck online. Ugh!

Fluff-

I've been looking into getting a hedgehog myself. Being out of the house for more than 12 hours a day is no fair for a dog, and I'm more of a dog person than a cat person. Besides, the fact that they're diurnal is pretty cool, since it would be active when I'm getting ready to leave for work and when I come home.

I don't think that there are many "major" petstores that carry them. At least that's what I can gather from research online. I think your best bet is to go with a breeder, especially if they can provide you with lineage-type info.

There's a list of breeders here but if you've done a search, you've probably come across this link. I would check with some of the breeders in the immediate area (NJ, NY, etc.) and work your way out from there. Make a day-trip out of it (ETA: when you find a breeder, going out to get it) if necessary.

The only hedgehog I know about (aside from the
picture above my post) is Sonic. My son got the game
for his new Gamecube on Sunday and it's been on
pretty much nonstop since then.

I know my post is of absolutely no help whatsoever.
My apologies.

"World of Pets" in Bay Ridge Brooklyn might be able to help you. My lady friend got a Sugar Glider there a few years back. According to her they can get you pretty much whatever you want .
