Lately with all the crap on FM radio, ive been listening to more talk radio. Sean Hannity and Bill O Reilly have great shows. Ive started listening to Michael Savage and he has a lot of good things to say, especially about border controls

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

O'Reilly CAN be listenable, and does at times let his guests actually speak their side, so he's somewhat alright. But then again, he's more of an independent with conservative leanings. He, unlike the "other" guys, also goes out of his way to emphasize that what he's saying are his OPINIONS, whereas the rest all simply spout off like they know what's best and if you don't think like they do, you're a moron. That being said, I can't STAND Hannity, Savage, Limbaugh, Liddy et al...if I wanted a fucking lecture about how everything that's fun and cool sucks, I would've kept going to church, thanks, monkeyfucks. But overall, politcal radio shows are DUNG. I'm glad there aren't any liberal shows, because it means that there's less useless politcal radio shows to take up the airwaves. DOWN WITH PUNDITS!!!

I listen to a lot of WLIE now. I like all those guys, mostly because I always think they're so retardedly wrong wrong wrong but can never find my cell phone headset so I can call them from my car!

Such wonderful stuff I hear, like Ed Tyll the other week complaining about how car dealerships have bigger american flags outside their places than the Nassau county offices.

Like dude, when did the size of the flag you fly become equivalent to how patriotic you are?

I like how Michael Savage takes a different angle on the illegal aliens scenario. He's also a doctor in nutrition and epidemiology, so he throws in all of these great stories.

Limbaugh is my favorite for listenability, humor, insight, and the amount of times I sit there and say "exactly!" He's not preachy or holier-than-thou like some others, particularly Hannity, and he cracks me up at least once a show.

Bob Grant ranks a very close second, however, and is the most lovable old miserable bastard ever.

I don't mean to go on tangent, but i think everyone should be aware of something that this quote brings up. It's called a "strawman argument," and talking heads are famous for it.

It is when you set up an argument in your favor, yet give yourself the illusion of fairness by showing the other argument, but in a flawed way, or having a flawed speaker. For example, having someone defend an undefendable subject, like Hamas, or hiring a poor debator as your opponent.

by doing this, you're giving yourself a straw man to knock down. He's no threat, but it makes it look like you're showing both sides. you should all be on the look out for this, to make sure that you're not being baited by a talk show.

They may have liberal leanings, but they focus mostly on froo-froo theater and ho-hum music and the like. It's simply boring radio. There's a HUGE difference between conservative talk shows that serve blatantly and specifically to champion conservative issues and causes and strive to tear down the "other guy" simply for the sake of ratings and "shock radio" and stations like MPR or shows like R&F that happen to have so-called "liberals" as hosts. Oooooh, scary. NPR is only a "liberal bastion" for those that actually want to think that there's a "liberal agenda/conspiracy" in the media as a whole. I mean, really...is there anything more puss-tastic than being scared of NPR (Not you, Se7en)? I should hope so.

ARE there any actual "liberal" talk shows on the radio? I hope not. The conservative ones already show how talentless and moronic you can be and still waste hours of airtime across the country...liberal shows would just be even worse...

You can hear Lynn Samuels on WLIE 540 on the weekends. She has an awful voice and sounds like a retard with her horrible accent (I haven't figured out if she has a speech impediment on top of that), but she's actually pretty sharp. And also just as retarded as every other political talk show host out there with all her Bush-bashing.

I don't think these political talk show hosts are ever happy with ANYTHING. They always have something to bitch about. But I guess that's why they're talk show hosts.

I hate Al Sharpton because back when they were filming the movie Frequency in front of my house he decided to hold a protest and had like 30 people banging on pots and pans and sc reaming through their bullhorns all night right outside my window.

At one point I heard him say through the bullhorn "Let's keep it up folks! If we make too much noise they can't film their movie! If you get tired, come inside! I have plenty of refreshments to keep us going through the night!"

*Limbaugh doesn't cover enough major issues. Instead he pulls up little weird stories and pulls them apart to benfit his arguments.

*Hannity is a BORE lately.

*Bachelor & Alexander, while not quite as right-wing-focused as Limbaugh and Hannity, have such annoying voices I can't even listen to them. They sound like two gay Jimmy Stewarts dying of AIDS.

*Drudge isn't on enough.

*Now that Steve Malzberg is without Dick Bey, he spends too much time being obsessed with being Jewish.

I guess that leaves me with the savage Michael Savage and Mark Levin. Savage brings up great points and is hilarious. "Dr." Levin needs more airtime!

Oooooh, scary.

I don't listen to conservative talk shows....I don't listen to any political talk shows, save for O'Reilly. But then again, I used to listen to Liddy back when he was on WJFK. It's more laziness on my part - just not willing to change the channel after Stern goes off.

I mentioned Ron & Fez just because Ron somehow finds a way to work in pro-liberal comedy into EVERY show now. I don't know, maybe other people find if fascinating to hear him "debate" the Bush tax cut with Mikey D, but I ain't one of those people.

NPR is only a "liberal bastion" for those that actually want to think that there's a "liberal agenda/conspiracy" in the media as a whole. I mean, really...is there anything more puss-tastic than being scared of NPR (Not you, Se7en)? I should hope so.

I'm not scared of them. I can honestly say I don't think I've listened to more than five minutes of NPR at a time, because it's lethally boring.

I mentioned them because I've heard them get the rap for being very pro-liberal, but I've also heard that they will essentially support any politician or cause if there are appropriate dollar signs attached. I don't know if either is really true because, again, I don't listen.

Sorry if my NPR comment came off as sarcastic or "fearful", but it was actually an honest question.

"I recently came across a partial biography, published in an English anthology for children, about Harriet Tubman, that emphisizes the cruelty of slave owners. The biography mentions the cruelty of the owners, and talks about the frequent beatings of slaves. While I understand that beatings did occur, I'm not at all sure that they deserve so much attention in a child's anthology. The skeptic in me sees a problem with beating someone from whom you expect productive work in return. Do any of you have sources that cite the frequency of slave beatings? I would like to have this in hand, to refute the teacher in question.

But honestly most political talk radio is absolute dogshit. You've got to fill a 3-hour show with just politics 5 days per week? That has to be quite a grind.

For conservative talkers I think Savage is funny, because I like looking at crazy people. Seriously that Michael Weiner ain't right in the head.

I think DarkHippie nailed Hannity for his "straw argument" tactics. Hell, that's the same tactic that Hannity sets up for his entire TV show on Fox. I honestly don't know how Colmes sits there, smiles and gets anally raped by Hannity every night.

As for my favorite, I'd have to go to TV side and admit that I don't mind Joe Scarborough. It's not great television by any means, but as a liberal I can respect someone who is firm in the old-school Goldwater Republican doctrine.

Sean Hannity is the devil himself, and Rush Limbaugh is his AntiChrist. I started listening to Rush in high school, when I was a brain-washed republican. I listened for about ten years until I developed my own brain.

Even after Rush nauseated me, I still really liked Glenn Beck. He leans conservative, but is still supposedly independent. He would always claim to not tow a party line. That is, until the 2006 midterm elections got close - then he was suddenly a republican mouthpiece and shill. That was the end for me. Now it's either O&A or R&F 24/7, budday.

Fave conservative talk show host?

Gotta go with Jim Bohannon.
Your Limpbaughs, your Manatees, your Sammages are more interested in satisfying their own ego and frequently use the shout-down technique to substitute for an empty ammo box.
Bohannon will let the person talk more and is more respectful of views other than his own. As a consequence, the listener hears more of an opposing view. He's not perfect, but he's a far better host than the others.

I don't think Hannity needs a "strawman". I like Hannity sometimes, but the fact is that he's a bully. They have strong people on the show and Hannity sets up a trap question and then tries to force them to answer it by yelling it at them over and over and over again. They aren't going to answer the question no matter how forceful he gets with it because its a trap. Everybody knows its a trap and anybody that would answer it is a fool. He does it on his radio show sometimes too and I bail on the shows every time now. It's a waste of airtime and it drives me nuts. I've never seen Colmes just sit there smiling and taking it either. The guy can hold his own pretty well. He may not be as scary as Hannity, but he does his share of yelling too. I've listened to Colmes radio show several times on my XM and he takes republican calls and handles them pretty well.

I agree. Its scary when I listen to one show on WNYC and know 10 times as much about a topic as the host does (especially on ABC). I'm also not shy about calling them and explaining this to them. But you should understand that they're really not designed to be informative shows, they're really just entertainment with politics as the subject matter.

That being said, I REALLY get a kick out of Savage. I find him very entertaining, except when he starts bashing immigrants and Palestinians. But he really is almost completely nuts, and its very entertaining if you get his type of humor. Which I know some people don't. Its like listening to someone have a train wreck/nervous breakdown.

BTW-Hannity is a hack. And an overbearing one at that.

I like John Bachelor. I wouldnt call him conservative more Republican. He regularly had Democratic guests to whom he was cordial. It was a good show.

I would be absolutely SHOCKED if that guy is NOT gay. Him, and his former radio partner Alexander.

As somebody who is left of the dial, let me be the first to announce that Colmes is a fucking pussy. Hannity outscreams him. Hannity talks approximately 2 to his 1 in words. Hannity always interrupts him and all he does is smile like a wimp & let Sean finish embarassing him.

Al Franken nailed it a few years ago when he called that show Hannity and Colmes.

As for Hannity he needs a strawman for his gimmick to work. With a real opponent to argue the actual opposing view, his entire bully act wouldn't work.

Does anyone listen to drudge's show? He is pretty out there, but is funny. He does try to control the show in a fairly heavy handed manner, but the conversations are really interesting. I just wish it wasn't on sunday at 9.

badmonkey

Well... the reason I say he doesn't need the strawman is because i don't think it really matters who is sitting in studio. He is going to be the loudest and most aggressive and he's not going to let the guest talk until he's answered the question. It's not easy to find somebody that can outscream him to put in the studio. The show is pointless anyway now because they don't even talk about politics half the time. What is the fucking point of a left vs right debate on Anna Nichole Smith, Lacey Peterson, or Natalie Holloway? You should check out Colmes radio show tho. I think it's a LOT better than Al Franken, who just bores me to tears.

To stay on topic tho... I like Mark Levin, Rush, Drudge, and the occasional Rusty Humphries (mostly for the parody songs). That Badmonkey kid used to do a decent news/commentary/politics show awhile back, but lately he just shills for the republicans, trashes DizzyDog, or talks about cowfarts destroying the planet. Fucking hack.

I love how far leftwingers bash the site and then put up their own hack version of it. I wouldn't go there if I was going to do serious research about a news topic but if I want a breif rundown of whats happening when I get home why not?

Is anyone even a little bit concearned with the fact that most of these fuckers spent the first three years of the Iraq war proclaiming that everthing was going fine but that the "liberal media" was exaggerating the problems to make Bush look bad. Anyone care that this constant mantra kept Bush's base of support on the war up high enough for him to continue making the same mistakes until we've reached the point where we can't win in Iraq? If conservatives were willing to look past their sources of "news" maybe it would have forced the President to change courses - replace Rumsfeld with a guy like Gates and start taking the advice of non-neocons like the Baker Commission and the uniformed military - and have a chance to succeed. Now it's too late.

I just don't understand how anyone could trust someone who's so obviously propagandized the American public into losing a war.

In a poll on here a month or so ago we voted ourselves as our biggest enemy. Our biggest enemy in Iraq was actually the pack of neoconservatives in charge of the war from the beginning. If that's true why don't we consider all these conservative pundits to be the Jane Fondas of the Iraq war?

Any thoughts? Excuses?

We don't blame conservative pundits for the Iraq war because for many Americans they control the message. There's a misconception in this country about the power of the media. I got into an argument at work with guys that don't believe that advertising affects their purchasing decisions. People don't know that the barrage of messages affect their opinions on Iraq, Afghanistan or politics in general, therefor they don't question their own ideas and as long as that influx of messages continue the conservative pundits will not be held responsible.

Look at Cable News ratings and Talk Radio ratings... conservative hosts are by far the most listened to/watched political entertainers in this country.

If this thread is about conservative hosts (TV or radio, past or present) I gotta go with Pat Buchanan. I don't agree with him very often but you always know where he stands. He doesn't care who he pisses off. And by the way...He's no lover of George W Bush. I still hear some other talk-show hosts carrying Bush's mail without question. I would say the same for Bob Novak. Loved the old CROSSFIRE show on CNN before it got silly. And I learned more negative about Bush and Co. from reading Buchanan's AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE MAGAZINE than I did from listening to hours of liberal talk. The old school right wingers can't stand Bush. He makes them sick.
HINT: Invading a sovereign country that hasn't attacked you isn't conservative. Medicare drug bills aren't either. And government intrusion like all the domestic spying business is pissing old school conservative's off as well.

As for my favorite, I'd have to go to TV side and admit that I don't mind Joe Scarborough. It's not great television by any means, but as a liberal I can respect someone who is firm in the old-school Goldwater Republican doctrine.

Colmes can sit there and take anal rape because he is a well paid whore. That, and by his own admission he is a moderate not a liberal.
As for my favorite talk show host, I'd have to go with Laura Ingraham. Her obnoxious nasally voice makes me want to pierce my own eardums with a sharp needle, her jokes are some of the unfunniest things I've ever heard, and I find anti-feminist women interesting, especially considering if it wasn't for the feminist movement she probably wouldn't have a talk show.

FCdruide...Yeah. These are neo-cons. And there is one hell of a difference between neo-cons and conservatives. What I like about that medicare drug bill? They had a bad idea and made it worse. What joke! They signed away the right to negotiate price. If an executive did something like that in any company he'd be shit-canned in a heartbeat. Yeah...we're going to be your biggest drug buyer and hey...CHARGE US WHATEVER YOU WANT! There isn't anyone down in DC that hasn't sold out to somebody. It's sickening. Both parties. And come to think of it. Most of the democrats aren't exactly liberal either. They're in that same middle-ground. Both parties are trying to please everyone....and pissing everyone off.

Wow...I had to catch my breath at that statement. And I like Limbaugh, started listening to him in 1993. He is pretty much the BEST at political talk with a conservative viewpoint.
Not preachy? C'mon remember the "caller abortions" he used to do? Holier-then-thou? "Talent On Loan From God" is his catchphrase.
I hate Hannity though. He is a Limbaugh wannabe.

I have to say Pat Buchanan is my new mentor. I read "Where the Right went Wrong" and he reschooled me on what a conservative is supposed to be, and it ain't being a neo-con. The way he has it spelled out, this whole foreign policy mess as of post-invasion Iraq is our fault as conservatives, and we should have never invaded Iraq. If we had kept up the no-fly zones, shut down Iraqs borders and exposed the U.N.'s oil for food program we would be in a much better position now dealing with Iran's nuclear program.

So sorry guys. I'll vote conservative next time. Not Republican.

On the XM dial
I listen to Ed Schultz this one conflicts with R&F so I cant listen to it on XM right now, G Gordon Liddy. Bruce Williams for filler till the 7:30 O&A replay.
Sometimes Dave Ramsey and what ever sounds good on the weekend even though XM likes changing the line up frequently.
If I had to rely on terrestrial radio I would only have John Tesh in the AM and who knows what other garbage is on the rest of the day. Rural PA with one station that comes in.
Thanks for XM simply the best.

Anyone who thinks that USA Today is a liberal media host is a goddamned retard. It's purposefully laid out like a motherfucking television to dumb it down as far as possible. It has more fucking graphs & charts than necessary. It is meant to be as apolitical as possible so that EVERYONE in this country will pick it up. That's their fucking gimmick!

Anybody who thinks that USA Today is liberal is crazy. The problem for neo-con's is that the news has gone so poorly for them that they have nobody left to blame other than themselves.
