IM question

I installed AIM a few weeks ago, and so far have been unable to transfer files. The messsage I get is that it might be because of my firewall. Dell customer support wasn't helpful at all. They told me to try disabling my firewall, connecting to the internet, and trying to transfer. Of course, this didn't work.

I've had the same problem when trying to transfer files in the RF.net chat room and when trying to use windows instant messenger a few months back.

Does anybody have any idea what's wrong?

first question i have is do you have cable modem
second is it a netgear rouder
if so it has a buiklt in firewall where you can only transfer witgh people with 56k connections or with netgear rouders.

That explains a lot. I have had the same damn problem, and i'm pretty sure i have a netgear router. Fuckers. Is there any way to cricumvent their firewall?

It's usually your router and/or firewall software. Also, check with the OTHER people, because they might as well be the source of the problem.

I used to be able to transfer files through AIM even though I had a router and a firewall... but after I installed Windows XP I could not. Something that windows xp does is what screws things up. I've never been able to figure out how to fix it.
