View Full Version : Sabin the new X-Champ, wise?

Last week on TNA, a relative newcomer Chris Sabin won the X-Division Championship via intereference from Triple X against The Amazing Red and Jerry Lynn. He also become one of the newest S.E.X. members after the aforementioned match.
I know he is a tremendous athlete and a great addition to the X-Division to compliment the likes of Lynn, Red, Cross, Kash, Triple X, Storm and London. Furthermore, he has a devastating maneuver known as the FutureShock which looks like a brutal double legged Fisherman buster.

I could care less that he has blown a huge spot in a spotfest in a prior #1 Contender X-Division Match and gotten unmercilessly booed by the Asylum fans and especially the infamous Heel Section.
But don't you think it was a tad premature to have The Amazing Red who just won the TNA X-Division Title two weeks earlier (which all of us marks have been waiting for since the inception of TNA) lose it to a TNA rookie and in his first title defense, no less? [Note: I know he is booked for All-Japan starting May 25th but couldn't the TNA brass just hold off on his title defenses?]
Moreover, do you think this title change will devalue the X-Division Title? Looking back at the lineage of champions, we've had Styles, Low Ki, Lynn, Syxx-Pac, Siaki, Kash and Red. Now Sabin. Well you can argue that Syxx-Pac or Siaki didn't deserve it but that is another topic for another time.
Also, I know this happened to start another Tag Team/X-Division storyline/feud between S.E.X. (Sabin and Triple X) vs. tradition (Red/Lynn) but come on now TNA! Red deserves a long title reign as the champ unlike the HHH-Jarrett dynasty!
So what do you think about it, my 'peeps'? {Sorry in advance to the WWE's Christian for stealing his line, lol.}

Damn you mark. You stole my entire post. I really agree with you on it being too early to give Chris Sabin the X Title. If they did have to take the title from Red, they should have given it to Jason Cross at least. I love that damn Crossfire finisher. But after a few minutes into that match I knew Red was going to do the job. I figured they would have Jerry Lynn come down and interferre on Sabin's behalf. Since Jerry Lynn is on this whole pissed off mood angle, I could see him joining S.E.X and feuding with Red. That would be a great feud.

That's like asking if my pets.com stock will be worth any less. I know you're a fan, but I'm not so sure how much value it had to start with. The company is only about a year old and as a whole hasn't made itself stand out yet. Aside from 10 independent stars, everyone else seem to be other promotion leftovers. They need to have someone of their own step up and win the title and give it some credibility.

The FutureShock looks almost like a musclebuster.

They're getting a bit testy with the overseas bookings. I mean, these guys need to work, put food on the table, etc., but I'm sympathetic to TNA management. It's hard to book guys like Low-Ki into high-profile angles if they're just gonna disappear for a month to wrestle for Zero-One.
I do think putting it on Sabin was premature, though.

The only thing I can think of that is very close to this decision is when ECW put the TV title on a relatively unknown Chris Jericho. He was known somewhat from Smokey Mountain and from Stampede, but he made most of his reputation while in Japan. Needless to say, it turned out to be a smart move by ECW as Jerichos stock went up. I don't know if the same will happen to Sabin.

The only difference is that Chris Jericho has an amazing character and can work the mic like no others. Sabin is a good wrestler can't tell aboot his mic work or anything yet.

Jason Cross is a spectacular athlete and the Crossfire (Shooting Star Leg Drop) if hit correctly is the most beautiful move in wrestling today (maybe next to the Spanish Fly).
I know you're a fan, but I'm not so sure how much value it had to start with. The company is only about a year old and as a whole hasn't made itself stand out yet. Gary, I am indeed a fan of the TNA product.
I know it has been roughly 48 weeks (1 year anniversary is June 18th) but the X-Division itself was what put TNA on the map in the nonexistent sports-entertainment market. It gave this small market promotion credibility and it brought in fans from all across America.
About it being basically 10 independent stars is valid. And they needed to add those retreads from the former Big Three so you have some household names to base a fed on. Gain viewship from old school fans, that is the nature of the business. You need a good mix like that to be successful in wrestling.
In my opinion, "The Ace in the hole" Sonny Siaki should be the first TNA blue chipper to win the NWA World Title strap but Jarrett still holds it. Raven should have won it but I won't quibble over that miscarriage of justice.
They're getting a bit testy with the overseas bookings. I mean, these guys need to work, put food on the table, etc., but I'm sympathetic to TNA management. It's hard to book guys like Low-Ki into high-profile angles if they're just gonna disappear for a month to wrestle for Zero-One.It might have been foolish to give Sabin the title this quickly but at least he does not have any tours to go on so he can solely concentrate on TNA.
The booking committee definitely has a tough time balancing angles when your main attractions are not available for showtime due to tours in indys/Mexico/Japan (ie: Malice, Awesome, Low-Ki, Daniels, London, etc.)
Triple X is very funny when you think of it. Curry Man and Low-Ki are usually touring in Japan so it usually is Skipper and either one. It is very rare to see all three on a given Wednesday anymore.

Raven's contract with TNA ran out, he may or may not sign again, the Hardy lookalike kid is Julio Dinero, a former part of the JCW roster in my neck of the woods, and was supposed to be part of RAven's revamped Flock. I don't know what you mean with '"vamp" but, whatever, no one ever knows what you are talking about half the time. And as for cable modem, Optimum is the way to go.

The company is only about a year old and as a whole hasn't made itself stand out yet.
I'd like for them to be in a bigger and better position than they are - i.e., having a national television deal - but you have to consider something.
When NWA started, EVERYONE was claiming that the show wouldn't last 2 MONTHS. Now here they are closing in on a full YEAR of existence, in a format that had not really been tested before - weekly PPV broadcasts. Not only has the company proven modestly successful, but they've grown in the sense that now NWA TNA is available overseas as well - particularly in Australia, a market very pro-wrestling friendly.
So while I wish NWA was a little bigger than what they are - they have NOTHING to be ashamed of.

My question is this. How many weeks are they going to drag this "Mystery Luchador" on for? God...everyone knows it is Trinity now. All of a sudden the mystery luchador is wearing chest padding and ass padding to cover up obvious differences.

yo .. whats up with raven ?

also whats up with the painted boy-{hardy}Well hth like McHaggis said he has no contract signed of as this moment but since he is continual mentioned on TNA concerning his contract, he'll be back. From my very reliable sources, he will make his return on NWA/TNA PPV at the 1 Year Anniversary if not sooner. He gets the biggest pops of any star on TNA so why would he want to go anywhere else?
Vamp? Vampiro? or do you mean Raven as the vampire? Vampiro is involved in other promotions so he is not jumping to TNA in the very near future. To be exact, El Vampiro Canadiense has returned to Mexico and is a huge draw for the EMLL promotion.
The painted boy I'll assume you mean is Jeff Hardy and not the Matt Hardy lookalike, Julio Dinero (had a short run in ECW). He has been contacted by TNA officials when it was made known that he was released but nothing materialized. He is currently working on his music and getting his priorities straight. How can you lose the passion for wrestling when you came this far? Very curious.
I think I covered all of you inqueries, hth.
My question is this. How many weeks are they going to drag this "Mystery Luchador" on for? God...everyone knows it is Trinity now. All of a sudden the mystery luchador is wearing chest padding and ass padding to cover up obvious differences.Good point. Well originally it was Low-Ki screwing all the X-Division except Triple X under the "Mystery Luchadore" gimmick but along the line Jorge Estrada (who mysteriously disappeared from TNA television, hmmm) wore it and now it appears that it is a female since, well you can tell.
It was Trinity under the female padding but they may change it to another female like April Hunter or someone else.
This storyline is going way too long and it will turn anticlimactic just like the Raven-Jarrett debacle of weeks past.
