I'd go on some rant about how we wasted our time in Iraq and ignored the real and present terrorist threats, but then again, I don't want to be a bad American.

"I don't want to be a bad American."

Unless you drive an SUV with a giant American Flag and a big number "3" in the back window, then it's too late.

you think on some level you're actually RIGHT about any of this? that we wasted time in iraq, or that we're 'ignoring' real terrorists? where are you digging this shit from? you think our government concentrated all their resources on iraq and forgot about the rest of the animals? if you're so scary intelligent, offer a practical solution on how we can stamp out terrorism COMPLETELY. and while you're at it, why dont you rid our city of vermin? its practically the same job.

Yes, I do think I'm right. We dumped $80 billion in Iraq, and we are about to dump a shitload more over the next few years. And we have heard from this administration in the last year that bin Laden is dead and that Al Qaeda is being destroyed. tongiht's boming proves that is not true, along with the Sadui bombing, and do you rememeber that horrible attack in Bali? And now intelligence is saying we face more attacks abroad. So I feel confident in saying that our current administration has failed in some way.

So you want a pracitical solution. Well I would say lets take the $80 billion we scrounged up and NOT spend it on a nation that posed no immediate threat. We could have spent that on revamping immigration (which we still haven't done), further solidifying airport security (which still isn't that great) and ramping up security at our foreign institutions. And we could have used our diplomatic resources over the past year to try and push for peace between Israel and Palestine, which if accomplished would help us with people in the Middle East. We could expect more support from governments in apprehending terrorists if their people didn't hate us so.

But of course that is all moot since we attacked Iraq already. But, frankly, its not my fucking job to offer solutions. I'm not running for office and I'm not running the country. But if the current adminstration is fucking up (and I think two terrorist attacks in a matter of a couple of days is a failure), I will speak up. I'm not going to wait until these attacks come here.

We have a huge incoming deficit, a sagging economy, and Al Qaeda is still running loose. This country is not in a good place.

oh, i see, you want none of the responsibility of cleaning up the mess, but you will bitch and moan when things arent being done as well as you'd like.

if someone like you, an average citizen, can come up with all those ways to solve our problems, then dont you think our elected officials woulda thought of them too? granted, a few of them are morons, but most of them are smart people. smarter than you and i.

some things are just either too difficult to solve, or they just cant be solved. as long as some worthless palestinian straps a bomb to his/her body and detonates it in a market, there will be isreali tanks rolling into his hovel and killing his family. clinton achieved some measure of peace between the 2, but somehow that got fucked up again. there's no end to it in the forseeable future.

yeah, our government's failed to find bin laden. but i dont doubt they're trying their best. and if the failure bothers you, go find a more 'successful' government.

Yes. Exactly. I'm not a politician, but when a politician is not doing the job, I will bitch and moan. I'm not going to storm the White House and start dictating what needs to be done.

oh right, thats always the way to solve these things, as opposed to participating in the entire democratic process.

write to your congressman and senators about whats on your mind instead of trying to sound like a smart alec on a message board. thats a GOOD AMERICAN.

Nonsense. His response actually DID offer suggestions from the layman's point of view, and also addressed the concern that many felt when they said that the war on Iraq was just a diversion from the real and most immediate threat at hand that MUST ultimately be addressed with out fullest capacities, and that's simply NOT happening. This notion that we have to just sit back and "take things because they'll happen anyway" is not even just ridiculous, but practically suicide in issues like this.

I DO actually think our government is at least trying its hardest to deal with threats like the current bombings...or at least as much as they can while the MAJORITY of our focus is pointed at Iraq.

Well, David Cross put it best. Waging a war on terrorism is like waging a war on jealosy.

The fact is that we can't sit back and watch this stuff happen, but we can't go around bombing every country that has a terrorist in it.

There is a fine line and i think that this country hasnt really found where it lies. We are still being guided by the pain of 9-11. It seems a majority of this country can't seem to think rationally about the problem, and only want to break shit.

i dont believe we're sitting back and taking it. i believe our government is doing what it can, but it cant get everything. its just not possible.

Yeah, but the track record for something bad happening after someone at least claiming to be from Al Queda announces specific impending attacks is still too damn good for comfort.

Anyway, ultimately, NONE of us know exactly what are government is or isn't doing or trying or not trying in this "war." We can only observe what APPEARS to be happening or not happening based on world events and judge or guess based on that. Nothing is concrete these days...
