Tokers everywhere are crying....actually they're probably smoking and watching Half Baked. Either way, it's a sad day for potheads.

Tommy Chong, the actor who toked his way to fame as one half of Cheech & Chong, has pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge of peddling drug paraphernalia online.

have no fear.... just about anything can still be manufactured and sold as art, rather than as a device for smoking. so remember kids..... thats not a bong, its a vase. your average glass bowl is now a glass trinket. 7-11 has sold crack pipes for years under the guise that the glass tubes are for holding those useless miniture roses. just ask billy staples how many of those he's bought, then ask him what happened to all the roses

Cheech will never get caught, he's got his bus driver front up. No one suspects a bus driver.

Marijuana and Paraphrenalia Laws may be the most inconsistent laws in this country.
This tiny amount of Government I think is correct; I'm not sure, I Chronic-ed my way from Sophmore year On...

But the Feds let the states make their respective Shibby/Dugout possession laws. Ditto for growing, selling, etc.
I don't know what state Tommy was in, but I'm guessing it's one where getting busted with small amounts of pot a second or third [if not a first] time WILL mean you are going to jail. Possibly for quite a while.

I'm torn on the issue because I've taught high school for approaching 8 years, and I see the damage that drugs, even weed, can do early on, when the brain is still developing.

But these Minimum Mandatory's, as the lawyers call them [my first girlfriend is now a lawyer who once worked fighting the MM laws] are so horrific in some states it's unreal.
I'll throw it out to the experts here; aren't there still some states where repeated possesions of the tiniest amounts of ganja can land you a 5 year stretch? or more?

Yup. Like you said, mandatory minimums...it's different with most of the states that have them, but the time handed down is usually almost always between 5-15 years...
