KISS, JULY 25, 1979 MSG
It was the first time i had felt feelings that i never thought possible. It sounds corny but, it was a religious experience. Being in the GARDEN, seeing a New York band that i loved so much, it introduced me to whole experience of live rock&roll. I've been hooked ever since.......

Gary Puckett and The Union Gap at Palisades Amusement Park in the 60's. Or was it Tommy James and The Shondells?
Possibly Jay and The Americans"? Or was it The 1910 Fruitgum Company?

My first "real" concert (besides local acts w/o a cd) would be June 14th 1998, Birch Hill Nite Club in Old Bridge NJ. Acts: SLAYER, Clutch & System Of A Down. It was an incredible show & it was oversold by probably 500 people. The entire club (both rooms) were a mosh pit.

My older sister and her
boyfriend took me with
them to see Boston in the
late '70's. It sucked. Even
after all the great shows I've
seen since, I'll never forget
how lousy that concert was.

The first real concert that I went to was the Who back in 1979 very good show. No Moon but still a great show.
When I was a kid back in 75 I went to summer camp and Harry Chapin would come and play every year. It was pretty cool.

Dare I even admit this? The Cars in 80 or 81 at the Meadowlands. They had no stage show, and just stood there doing the set. No energy at all. Not one lousy encore. To this day I still want my money back!

Ok, Bay City Rollers -- May 4, 1977 - I was a mere child... LOL!
I can't believe I see that someone else was at the Cars concert I was at in 1981-- Yes, Brother Ray-- I wholeheartedly agree. They sucked WIND. Talk about zero stage presence-- and I saw them after I had seen The Police at the same arena and they had blown the roof off the place. What a let down! UGH. I'll never go to one of their concerts again.
A whole bunch of bunchies!

Im with ya Jane! Even back then (I was 13 or 14) and it was my first show ever, I knew they were the worst thing on stage ever! Thankfully, I can say that every concert after that was pretty damn good, but I will never forget that lousy night. To this day, I wouldnt bother to see them if they set up in my back yard and paid me to watch.

I have not yet paid for a "real" concert.
When I was in the 7th grade (school year 1990-'91), a small metal-type band came to play at the local middle school. They were called XL. I haven't heard anything from them ever again.
I also saw Soul Asylum at RutgersFest when I was a Freshman in college (Spring 1997), but that was a free concert, we couldn't hear them, and they didn't play Runaway Train
Then, on Halloween this year, I saw band formerly known as the Ron and Fez Dot Com band (?), billed that night as the "Big Orange Band of Failure" in addition to Brother Joe's band "Joshua Tree", but I don't think that counts, either. Needless to say, I did enjoy them very much, especially hearing Quinn sing with the "Band of Failure".
Now I feel like such a loser.
I am still hoping to be able to attend my first "real" concert soon.

Laaz Rockit and MOD at the Airport Music Hall in Allentown, PA. This show just blew my mind as I thought getting on stage and stage diving was left for Headbangers Ball. Slam dancing on stage with Billy Milano started off a glorious time for me of going to many many thrash, speed and death metal shows with some hardcore thrown in for good measure and slam dancing until I lost my breath. The Airport is no more but great memories linger on.

It was supposed to be the The Cramps, the Slickee Boys and a showing of "The Punk Rock Movie." This was around May, 1980. The Cramps didn't play, though, something about Bryan Gregory not showing up, and the band "Teen Idles" played instead. It was a disappointment, but it was still fun for a bunch of 14 year olds to be around "real" punk rockers. Besides, the Cramps rescheduled and played in August and THAT show was great!

Technically, the first one for me was Jerry Lee Lewis at the Charlestown Racetrack in WV. If you're talking actual concert venue, it would be either U2 or the Grateful Dead (can't remember which was first) in 1984.

E.L.O with The Michael Stanley Band at Nassau Coliseum. I think it was around 1980. I was nine years old and I remember that my ears were ringing until the next morning!

First "concert" ever was Dice at the Garden back in 1988. First musical concert was Kiss at the Ritz in 1991.
Trust me, it won't hurt.

First real concert was 8/4/94, Grateful Dead, at Giant Stadium...saw them two more times after before Jerry died. I am so glad I got to see them at all being I was only 14 at the time and my parents were skeptical about it. But im glad i went and will remember it always.

First 'concert' was David Johansen opening for The Ramones sometime in the early eighties somewhere in NYC. Learned about the joy of moshing that day.
We wound up seeing David Johansen many more times in the next few years. They did great/cheap shows in parking lots and small venues all over the NY area. Funky Funky But Chic!

Mettalica, at the (get this) Rio Theatre in Valley Stream LI. On the
"Kill Em All" Tour (83?). They were WAY to loud for what was an old
movie theatre and every song sounded the same. Though "Seek and
Destroy" was a standout. They kinda sucked. Knew they'd never go
anywhere.

E.L.O with The Michael Stanley Band at Nassau Coliseum. Must've been around 1979 or 80.

I remember that is was very hi-tech and futuristic. I recently made the mistake of watching a bootleg video of that concert. It was reeeally bad. Totally ruined the memory of the original. The UFO that landed onstage really didn't look all that cool 20+ years later. Bummer.

My first concert was the Bobby Brown Humpin the World Tour at Madison Square Garden featuring TLC, Mary J Blige, Shabba Ranks, Kris Kross, and others. I was 12 at the time and my friend's mom went to the concert with us. It was one of the most unforgettable moments of my life because we were 3 of only a handful of white people in the entire arena and when we all got up to go get refreshments, the comedian on stage who was entertaining the audience in between acts made a joke about how we looked like the Brady Bunch. I was terribly embarrassed at the time but I think it's hysterical in retrospect.

AC/DC - "For Those About to Rock" tour (I think) - about 1983/4. Opening up was, as usual, Fastway.
