It seems that in this day and age, the door to door salesman has pretty much become obsolete. As a kid I can remember a neighbor that was a Fuller Brush salesman, my Mom bought all of her vacuums and bags from the Electrolux guy, and my Mom was even an Avon lady.

I guess with the convenience of catalogue and online shopping, and the fact that there aren't many "housewives" who are home all day has made them go the way of the dinosaur.

Anybody know if they still exist?

A few years ago my mom got a call from a company that sold vaccum cleaners (Kirby), and they were offering in home demonstrations of their product.
So we got these two old geezers that came into our house to demonstrate one of the ugliest machines I have ever seen in my life...She would have needed a body builder to help her schlep the thing up and down the stairs.

So to answer your question. Yes, they still exist.

Do Jehova's Witnesses count? They're trying to sell
salvation.

I believe my Dad bought an Encyclopedia Brittanica(sp?) set from a Door to Door salesman...

I haven't seen one since...

I do see them going into small businesses like my mechanics shop...

it's most likely just too dangerous... not only because of people but the pitbull seems to have become more popular as pets since the 60's and 70's...

Mary Kay Cosmetics and Amway are still around . They seem to be more "pyramid than product " oriented. I have had people coming "door to door" selling "gas and electric services" in the last few years in my apartment building.I thought it was a little wacky.

I found this, I guess it's pretty common.

I'd be a little sqeamish to have a man at my front door showing me his meat.

i feel like the door-to-door back in the day was the equivelant to todays pop up ads.

the only difference is that the door-to-door salesman got to get laid every once in a while i'm sure.

Stuff my family bought from door-to-door salesman when I was younger:
1. A vacuum (it was a Kirby)
2. Complete set of Encyclopedias (not Brittanica)
3. Blanket/Rugs (we bought regularly from this guy, he always came over with good stuff)

Now people try to sell you stuff and services you don't need like (more like scams if you ask me):
1. Chimney cover (to prevent water from going in!)
2. Some type of electric coverage to save you money on electricity (they usually look like they just graduated high-school)
3. Magazines (supposedly to assist them with getting through college)
4. God (you all know the Mormons and the Jehovah Witnesses)

Where there ever any Saleswomen back in the day? (just asking)

The Ron and Fez show transcends all boundaries!

STOP! the Turf Wars.

Whatever Happened to the Door-to-door Salesman?

He finally got caught slipping the sausage to the Farmer's Daughter, got shot by her Dad and was buried in the corn field.

Sad, really. The end of an era & all that.
