View Full Version : What was your favorite Guinness Record as a kid?
The Chairman

No, not how many beers you had on St. Patty's day...
I'm talking about what you favorite World Record was when you were a kid. I think everyone had or knows someone who had this book. My mom bought it every 5 years starting in 1975.
Anyway, my favorite record as a kid was the fattest person. I remember in my edition the guy was Robert Earl Hughes.
http://www.geocities.com/tsaxpinoula/robert_hughes2.jpg
I also liked the eating records...and for years and years there was one record about a guy who consumed the most whelks. And as a kid I'm like "what the fuck is a whelk?" And only recently did I find out a whelk is a snail (scungilli).
Anyway, my new favorite is this one:

The woman with the longest beard. Hate to see what her bush looks like....

That book always came in handy when making bets with friends. Everybody here must have owned a copy of it at least once in their lifetime. This is one of my favorite records. It's rather sad and I hope they make it into a movie one day.................
Longest Surviving Headless Chicken
On September 10, 1945, a Wyandotte chicken belonging to Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colorado, USA, had its head chopped off, but went on to survive for 18 months. Mike's owner, Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colorada, USA, fed and watered the headless chicken directly into his gullet using an eyedropper. Mike eventually choked to death one night in an Arizona motel.

I think it was the loudest rock concert.
I believe it was the Who at 115 or 120 decibels sometime in the early 70's. I think they turned their amps up to 11.
We need everyone to keep spreading the word about Ron and Fez. Get you friends, coworkers, hell anyone you talk to get them to listen.

longest staying awake. I love sleep. I get 10 hours a day. So it boggles my mind that someone would stay up for 80 hours on purpose.

My favorite records were:
Highest paid rock band...when I was in 6th & 7th grade, I was (& sadly still am) a huge Van Halen fan. I t was always fun to go to the school library & see them in the Guiness book. They were paid something like $1 million to play the '84 "Us" Festival after the huge success that was the '83 "Us"...they turned down the first 5 offers or so because the lineup wasn't that good & they didn't like the promoters. They couldn't say no anymore when the amount hit $1 million & performed...the rest of the show tanked & the promoters lost their shirts. But I got to see my favorite band in the Guiness Book.
My other favoite was the Asian man who smoked the most cigarettes, simultaneously. I don't remember the number, but I got a kick out of seeing the picture that looked like he had pulled the head off a plunger & squeezed as many cigarettes into as he could.

I loved the pictures in that book when I was little.....I was intrigued by the tiniest man/woman the people that literally are standing on tables and look like dolls. And the longest fingernails that are all curled and twisted....I always wanted to know how they peed or batched. Ick.

I'm going to agree with the Chairman here. I remember going on a class trip somewhere that had alot of the things from Guinness. They had this belt setup where all of the students were able to stand in. That was one fat man. I am obsessed at looking at fat women. I mean the ones that have those things that looks like balls hanging down. There is a lady that lives across from me and I can't stop staring at those things hanging down!!

Wow...memories...I remember that guy, too. The guy kept only one hand all long & nasty...and he was a photographer by trade. He had the nasty hand in a burlap bag or something like that and used that hand to balance the camera.

The fat twins! The McGuire Brothers I believe their name was.
I was always flipping through that book. Hardcover yellow.
I liked the twins. Also the indian with the longest fingernails and the other indian who never laid down for 10 years or some long amount of time.
Enough with the sigpics.

OMG. There is a link on that page to see celebrity pics. When you go there, they messed with the pics to make them OBESE. Gotta love Britney Spears with that big neck. So what's with those ballsack looking things on those fat woman. Is that just fat from the stomach? The lady that lives across the street from me has a little son. I like to watch the little kid lean on those fat ballsack looking things.

supposedly, when i was growing up Jersey City was in there for being the most densely populated city in the US... being it was my hometown, i was proud of it along with 6,000 other people on my block...
then supposedly, Hoboken had the most Taverns per square mile or something like that...
