View Full Version : X2: Wolverine's Revenge blows.

I rented it for my Gamecube. If there's a difference between it and the XBOX or PS2 version, then they might be OK. But they're probably all the same basic game.
The camera angle SUCKS!!! It's always where I don't want it. Fighting is kinda boring. As you finish off a guy you can do a special move, but that gets old. You have to sneak around TOO MUCH and pull off these stealth moves. Wee wee wee wee boring.
And just like EVERY OTHER Wolverine game I've ever played, you have to stand aroud to allow his mutant healing factor heal him after a big fight. He automatically heals when you retract his claws in this game, but it takes time. So you're sitting there watching a little meter ever so slowly inch it's way up so you can safely proceed.
It's really easy to fall off edges too. And there's ZERO room for error in the missions where you can't get spotted. If you're at the end, you have to start again because you failed the mission objective.
Overall, it's kinda weak. I've only played it for 2 days but I already want to take it back to Blockbuster.
My advice to fellow Wolverine fans is RENT 1st.

Thanks Horde King. You should get paid for all the honest advice you've given out to our messed up asses over the years here.
I'm also glad to hear it's not just ME who has issues with this game.
I posted this because I'm sure money's as tight with other members as it is with me. So when you drop 6 bucks on a rental, you're PISSED when it's a shitty rental. And you'd be ROYALLY PISSED if you dropped 50 bucks to buy it new, just because it was a Wolverine title.

Dude, Fuck the XBOX. GameCube RULES!!!
Nintendo has always come out on top of these game phases. Sony has had a lot of staying power, but for my money, I decided to go for the Cube. Nintendo almost always puts the time into development for their console exclusive games, i.e. Zelda, Mario, Metroid and so on.

Amen Moe!
I bought an XBOX the day it came out, waited in line from 3 in the morning til 8, now it collects dust in my corner.
While with GameCube I'm getting The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshin etc. Nintendo is the greatest company and always will be that way.
Go play your "mature" XBOX games and make yourself feel better. I'm playing good games instead.

Actually, that's a good point you bring up about "mature" games.
Nintendo has always had this stigma attached to them that their games are for kids.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Cube have all the Resident Evil games which are really fucking gross? Nintendo has broken that stigma I believe. And this Wolverine game is gay, but some of the kills are VERY violent.
I had to kill 6 troops in their sleep in one mission. You pull them by their feet to the foot of the bed and slit their throats with your claws. I actually was surprised when it did that. No blood, but very violent.
Now of course XBOX and PS2 have the GTAs and Max Payne and all that shit. They look great, but I don't miss them. I guess I'm not that hardcore a gamer. Whatever Nintendo releases for the Cube and GB Advanced is enough for me.
Bottom line, buy more Bacon.

Well you're hardcore enough to know what system is the best. We all know GTA III and Vice City are great, and no one denies it, but people who say "Kiddie Cube" and Gamecube is for little kids are complete idiots and don't know gaming.
Maybe it's just me but I'll take Animal Crossing (often refered to as the biggest kiddie game) over Dead to Rights and Max Payne any day.
And while Cube's big three games aren't ultra-violent M rated games, they're more mature in a gaming sense. It will take a more mature gamer to appreciate the level and game design in Wind Waker and Metroid Prime than someone who sees guns in GTA and immediately loves it.
Bottom line, if you don't like Nintendo you are uninformed and ignorant. Shigeru Miymato is the best game designer and pops out the best games each and every year.

I wouldn't go so far as to name call people who don't recognize Nintendo as the best of the game designers, but you do have a point. Especially with Animal Crossing. MAN I never got so into a rental game! It was so simple, but so much fun! I felt like half a fag designing my house's interior, but it was FUN! Cutting down trees, selling Fruit like a roadside Mexican, making deliveries. MAN was that fun! And the only payoff was a bigger house.
Some people just prefer these violent games. I think it's a phase, like many things in life, and will pass to leave solidly designed games in their wake. They'll come back. Then again, some of those games are quite well designed and have a lot of appeal. I just don't care about them, and it seems you don't either. I also would take Metroid or Zelda over flashy "Killer" games anyday.
But honestly, there are really FEW titles these days I see that are console exclusive. All your Madden games are on the big 3. This shitty Wolverine game is on all 3 finally too. So brand loyalty isn't that big a deal. I see Nintendo's cast of characters as a real difference, but some people don't care about Mario or Donkey Kong I guess.
Also, I think I'm taking this shitty Wolverine game back today. It's not due back till Monday, but it's so ridiculously hard on the last mission I got to that I have lost interest. It's NOT a game. It's like a ballet. You have to kill and move in a predetermined order and way, or you lose. Tha's not fun. Hacking and slashing with Wolverine's claws is fun.

Whats next, a game where you simply stroll through the park???
And as far as brand loyalty goes, i am very loyal toy both nintendo and sega. I had a genesis and a sega cd, and i got a dreamcast too. I still buy all the 2K titles (except for football, uve had madden since the beginning)
I always wanted a super nintendo, but i did buy a nintendo 64, and i wasted thousandes on mediocre games. I have also had almost every incarnation of gameboy (except the gamegirl and gameboy advance). I am also trying to scrap together 100 bucks for the new GBA.
But when it came to the next-gen consoles, Gamecube seemed like it would die very quickly, and dint feel like spending tons of money on another short-lived system. Because gamecube used its own cd, and played no dvds, i was sure that it would go under, so i chose the badass with the best graphics.
I know this is really long-winded, but so what

My ONLY problem with Gamecube is that Nintendo doesn't have Squaresoft titles. That BLOWS!
Squaresoft has and still makes the best RPG games I've ever seen. They know the formula for making an in depth game to hold most people's interest. Their battle systems are superior and their stories draw you in.
How could you think Nintendo would make a short lived system? ALL their systems have historically had longevity.
And yes, get the GameBoy Advanced. I play it more than any of my systems.

I love it because, it is basically a super nintendo (one of the best systems EVER). Plus, it has a million games and they are cheap. And awesome. They need to port more SNES games

Ported SNES games are the main reason I bought a GBA. It's amazing to be able to Play Super Mario World 1 and 2, and LttP on a handheld console.
A rumor is going around saying that the next Mario Advance is going to be Super Mario Bros. 3, which would be huge. A NEW Zelda is officially in development for gameboy advance too, it's being made my capcom (who made the Oracle of Ages and Seasons games) in development with Nintendo. A new Mario is also rumored.

what kills me about GBA is that i now own both golden sun games and they are simply amazing games, i think that they are better than some next gen rpgs and you can bring it anywhere, and the SP is well worth the money, youll make your investment back just by not having to buy batteries, now if i could just get Shining Force (my favorite RPG series outside of FF and BoF) id be soooooo happy.

Don't expect too much from Wind Waker's ending. It's a little short and doesn't explain enough.
But, I thought Gannon's Tower was the best dungeon in the game!

Well....to try to get this topic....back on topic.
I bought X2 Wolverines Revenge for PS2 and I'm enjoying it. I'm a die hard Marvel fan and this game is right on with the storylines.
The graphics i think rock!
Although a fag is doing the voice of Wolverine (Mark Hamill) He still does a good job. Also Professor X is played by Patrick Stewart.
I think the game kicks ass. I dont know what youre talking about Moe.

There's a Final Fantasy coming for Gamecube.
And to go back to topic: Pants forgot to mention that the story is by Larry Hama.
I have the game for the PC and I'm enjoying it. The thing that bothers me the most is the controls. As the camera angle chages, so do the controls, because they're relative. This is especially annoying during boss fights. I'm up to Juggernaut and I can't avoid him sometimes because I don't know which way I'm supposed to move or the controls changed because he moved and it changed the camera angle. Admittedly the game gets repetitious occassionally, and if you can't figure out how to pass an area it takes a while of doing the level over and over, but it's overall a fun game.
