Has anyone been to a concert here?
lolapalooza is going to be there and my friend is telling me not to get the best seats, he tells me the lawn is the best place to sit.

does anyone have any idea? he told me the lawn you can hang out and chill and walk around and it's cool as hell, in the seats you can't really move and they're strict as hell there.

any suggestions or comments?

I've seen about 15 concerts there, lawn seats are hands down the greatest place to be. I've sat very close to the stage in the seating section and not even front row can compare to being able to lounge on a lawn, watch a concert, and be so close to the beer stand. Lawn is the way to go!

Definitely lawn seats. You can walk around, dance, pass out, smoke, and the list goes on. But people may try to bum hits off of you so be discreet, those damn scavenger smokers.

I would buy regular seats if you aren't worrying about money, though. You can always get up and walk around and sit on the lawn if you want to. Lawn seats are unrestricted, as long as you're in the Arts Center, anyone can sit there. This way you can sit up close if you want or go back to the lawn if you want. You'll have options. Like I used to have. I used to have options........

Definately lawn. Especially for a festival concert. (OzzFest, Lollapalloza)

"If he's not back in 10 minutes we're calling Domino's."

OK I'll stop. I just love that movie.

First of all to understand what happened to Killer, you gotta understand who Killer the dog was. Now Killer was born to a three-legged bitch of a mother. He was always ashamed of this, man. And then right after that he's adopted by this man, Tito Liebowitz he's a small time gun runner and a rotweiler fight promoter. So he puts Killer into training. They see Killer's good. He is damn good. But then he had the fight of his life. They pit him against his brother nibbles. And Killer said "No man that's my brother, I can't fight nibbles" but they made him fight anyway, and Killer, he killed nibbles. Killer said "that's it!" he called off all his fights, and he started doing crack, and he freaked out. Then in a rage, he collapsed, and his heart no longer beat. Wow

concerts there in general suck. the sound is awful, the
layout makes so even if you get seats you aren't that
close...

if you're gonna go, get lawn seats...

I don't know how they would do a lollapalloza type event
there....it's best for mellow concerts

Warning. If you go there, DO NOT BRING A BAG OF ANY KIND! Even way before 9/11, they had the strictest security I've ever seen. When we went to OzzFest in 1998, we packed basically like it was a picnic. We had to get rid of everything!!!! Including the bag. I couldn't even bring in a friggin' sheet to sit on. Good security is nice and safe, but a huge pain in the ass sometimes.

Well....

Long story short, the lawn seats you will get will be a bit cramped and 'walking around' may be a bit of a struggle. See...

Once upon a time there was this great amphitheatre called the Garden State Arts Center. It rocked. Nice and mid-sized; held about 8-10K tops. Parking? No Prob. Lawn seats were open, you could bring your blankets, chairs, bags, and generally have the time of your life. My show list back then included Meat Loaf, Jackson Browne, Peter Gabriel, Moody Blues, and a bunch more.

THEN the place was bought by PNC Bank. PNC then proceeded to:
1. Put seats where the Lawn Seats used to be [this is now Sec 400].
2. Built up a HUGE mountainous new lawn seat section farther back and higher. It's still great when the show isn't sold out. But man you're like climbing K2 to get up there and then you climb All the way down.
3. Can't bring in your own frigging Lawn Chair! you have to RENT one from them!
4. On big shows they Will over-sell the lawn; meaning it's not exactly cozy, and when the show starts, people basically stand, and then stand, and then stand, and then some sit, and some stand, and people yell at the people in front, you get my drift.

Oh and it's now HUGE. 17,500. Ack.
7,000 seats...10,000+ on the lawn; these numbers from the PNC site. And that means parking can be a nightmare ie. you may have to park waaaay far away, across the parkway; and get on yellow school buses [how lovely is re-living THAT nightmare...Beuller?...] that truck you up to the place.

Having said all this, go. It's still a great place to see a summer show; just get there early to get good parking, and a good lawn seat.

was there once for a Ringo Starr All Star Band concert...

you are probably better off on the lawn(unless it rains) i remember feeling really cramped, the seats are small and very close together...

kind of like the top sections of Yankee Stadium, just not as steep... If somebody trips up there, they are going for a nasty ride...

To be quite honest PNC sucks. The security gaurds are everywhere and they are on a complete power trip. I saw ozzfest there a few years ago and ive never seen so many people harrassed by security.
