I was a proud owner of Atari 2600. I loved those corny games to death. I could kick myself because I gave away my original system a few years ago along with all of the game cartridges I had.

I had Intellivision. I thought the graphics were better than Atari's -- until the 5200 came along.

I had a few of the double-sided games for the 2600. I loved the Chuck Norris Karate game.
I also have and it still works great is the VECTREX.
It was the whole system and TV monitor. You changed the platic screen overlay's when you played a differenet game. The best game for the VECTREX was the football.
Now on EBAY they go for over 300 bucks.

Atari first came out with the "Atari 2600" which was the most popular system by far..and it was probably like 2 bit or something. Combat, Pac Man, Pong, were popular. Missile Command was my fav by far.
Next came the "Atari 5200" which was supposely more graphics, but it was probably 3 bit or something. I remember a game like "Chop Fighter" or "Choplifter"
Finally came the "Atari 7800" which was the least popular and supposely the best graphics. I can't remember owning it (or any of my friends owning it either)
Right after that Atari re-released the "Atari 2600" with a much smaller base and something like $50 for the system, games and controlers...but that was like right before Nintendo NES came out in 1985...(Super Mario I, Gyromite and Duck Hunt) Everyone got that smaller one because their original HUGE Atari systems broke and they had too many games ...
Nintendo came out in 1985 with (i think ) "Robbie" the robot, which lasted like two months before they stopped making it.

Atari:
"Hero"
"Swordquest"
"ET"
Nintendo:
"Bad Dudes"
"Contra"
"Robocop"
"Excitebike"
"Mike Tyson's Punchout " (original, not the remake without Tyson)
"Baseball Stars" (one of the best games was created by NeoGeo, which was another system and they stopped making Baseball Stars when that came out.) It was the first game you could trade players and make a team...but they didn't have real teams...just real player names.

I collect old video games
I have (from the 80's):
Oddyssey2
Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
Intellivision
Collecovision
NES
Gameboy
All great systems.
And saveoa.net, the smaller Atari 2600 was called the Atari Jr., and retailed for $49.99. The commercials touted "under 50 bucks! Isn't that nice?"

You can play all of those games on all of those systems by downloading their emulators (the system) and roms (the games) from the site below. You can also download the emulator that allows you to play all of the arcade games from the 80's and 90's. I am currently playing "Renegade", "Punchout", "Jungle Hunt" and "Golden Ax".

Sega Genesis released the greatest Baseball game ever in 1989, titled "Tony La Russa Baseball" It was the best thing that ever happened to me before I discovered that you can actually play baseball outside and not on my TV screen!

Remember those "vibrating" baseball and football games where you flick the switch and the vibrations made the players move. Now that was a classic.
Atari 2600:
Yar's revenge (although it was the same screen over and over again but it was mad shit!)
Missile Command, Defender, Ms. Pacman, Asteroids (the arcades come home)
NES:
Maniac Mansion (does ne 1 remember this game?)
Ultima (although the last boss was weak-there was none!)
10-yard fight (remember the playbook-there was none!)
I remember Maniac Mansion! I played the Commodore 64 version, not the nes. It rocked!!
Other faves of the C64:
Ghosts and Goblins
The Pawn
GI Joe
Robocop
Atari:
Food Fight - One of the most underrated games I've known! You run around throwing pies and dodging pies. Ooowee... they just dont make em like they used to.
Frogger
Pitfall
NES:
Mike Tyson's Punchout - I agree. Much better with Tyson than that other dude.
DOUBLE DRAGON! Woo hoo! They have to make a new version!
Super Mario Bros 2 was my fav SMB
Contra (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A Start is still in my head!)
3-D Worldrunner
FINAL FANTASY - Playing it now over again on PS. Meeeemories!
Whew, I can go on... I didnt date much in the 80s. My mommy wouldnt let me.

I used to love the intellivision Football games. I challenge anyone to try to find a more unstopable play than the tightend drag across the middle. Even works on today's systems the Ai can't handle it for some reason. Shockey had 200 catches using it and 40 touchdowns.

R.O.B. the robot (Robbie)
I think it stood for Robotic Operating Buddy.
The Tengen version of Tetris was way better than the Nintendo version one.

I remember when Colecovision Donkey Kong blew my mind because it was the first time I'd seen a console game that looked just like the arcade version.
I was still a paperboy when that came out (albeit an old one at almost 20) and the day that was released I was supposed to collect for my bill. I never made it out of the house. I played that game about 4 hours straight.
Michael Jackson Moonwalker on the Sega Genesis had the same effect on me. I hadn`t bought an 8 bit system and that was my first experience with 16 bit. I will never forget MJ flipping that coin(Sounded like a real coin) spinning in the doorway with his patented (Whooooo) and than the jukebox blasting smooth criminal through all those channels.
I had never heard real music in a video
game before.

i loved the game made by super nintendo called atari warriors or ikari warriors. It was called one or the other. It is still one of the funnest games a have ever played sadly every time i would beat the level some thing would go wrong. (freezing glitches ect)
