That was nuts...But to all the Piazza and Met Fans....did you notice the Cubs actually ended the 'problem' in the same game and didn't wait like 2 yrs? Piazza and Mets = Pussies.

Ps...I think Sosa winked at him, so he got one in the ear.

i was surprised at how fast sosa got up.. thought he would of been on the ground for a few minutes wondering if anyone got the license plate of the truck that hit him...

I remember something like this happening to former catcher Terry Stienbach when he was on the A's. He had a different helmet made that covered his face down to his chin after the incident.

My thoughts exactly. I guess when you have that much juice running through your veins pain really doesn't affect you. I thought he was going to turn green and rip his clothes while screaming you won't like me when I am angry, by the look on his face.

Probably neither did he... when Piazza recently "blew up" with eyes bulging after getting hit, they mentioned other big hitters that got hit twice as much as Piazza, like Barry Bonds and a couple others. I don't think Sosa's name was mentioned "for getting hit much", why, maybe because he's more likable or people are more afraid of him?????

If he doesn't get thrown at much then he was probably "totally suprised"...

then again, there's probably a second or less to make a decision about getting out of the way of a 95 mph fastball... i would be curious to see how much time there really is to decide?

I don't care if Sosa fucked this guy's sister & passed around photos...you don't throw a rock at someone's earhole at 95 MPH. What a fucking dick. I wouldn't want to see that happen to a member of the Red Sox (except maybe Calrton Fisk, but I don't have a time machine).

the guy was trying to brush him back, he didn't mean to hit 'em. And it shouyld just be accepted that it's part of the game that people get beaned. Torres (i think that's his name) says he idolized Sosa and that he never would've beaned him like that on purpose.

I think that picture's funny actually.......

I understand the value of the brushback. But they should take place between the elbow and the thigh if they truly have no ill will. And if you don't have the control, to keep a brushback pitch out of a guy's earhole, you don't deserve to own the inside corner of the strikezone.

that's what made me think Clemons was throwing at Piazza's head on purpose... i knew he was a pitcher with good control of his pitches...

You're absolutely right. Piazza OWNED Clemens, so Roger had to knock him down to regain any repsect. That pitch wasn't meant to maim Piazza, but it was thrown with unkind intent. As a Yankees fan (even though I'm a Piazza fan & Clemens hater), Roger had to throw high & tight on Piazza to prove he had a set.

It would have been even better had Roger not gone back to pitching to him like a pussy & let Piazza take him out of the zip code again last year...fuckin' ex-RedSox.

i'm a Yankee fan but not a die-hard, but i am a die-hard fan of "tough, hard fought, but FAIR" play... nothing gets my goat more that dirty play...

what do you think about this?

in the World Series when Clemens threw the piece of bat towards Piazza. I thought Valentine should have pulled his players off the field til they took Clemens off the mound...
I think he could have gotten away with it...
The throwing of the piece of bat confirmed that Clemens is losing his cool and both the beaning and the bat throwing are intentional. Valentine could have argued that he does not want any more players getting hurt by someone who cannot control his emotions...

It would have been very interesting and would probably have been a first and it might have turned the Series in the Mets favor...

just a thought...

FUNKMAN...I still don't know how I feel about that series of events. All that emotion leading up to that at-bat. All the bad blood. And, as if God was bored & just wanted to see the shit hit the fan, Piazza breaks his bat & it flies towards Clemens' feet. That was truly amazing. And Clemens' reaction was obviously made out of stupidity & adrenaline. But hell, it was the World Series, what can you expect but the juices to be flowing.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Clemens was tossed, or if Bobby V pulled the Mets off the field until something was done. And that definitely would have done something for the Mets' collective psyche. But, although it would have cost them their biggest bat for a game or two, the thing that would have really given the Mets a boost would have been if Piazza did something about it.

Lots of people said he did the right thing. They're probably right, because both men would have been suspended, and Piazza would have hurt the Mets much more. Not to mention, Piazza's a big dude, but Clemens is an even bigger dude. And, as Robin Ventura found out at the hands of Nolan Ryan, you don't fuck with big, Redneck Texas righthanders. Piazza might have been suspended for one or two games, but might have been in the hospital for the rest of the series.

It was truly the weirdest thing I've ever seen happen in sport.

I can deal with Clemens beaming Piazza. I can't deal with him throwing the bat piece at him. That was not right. Intensity, my ass. Either way, the Mets ran away with thier tail between their legs after that. They should have retaliated somehow. Whether by brushing back a few Yanks, or simply taking a Clemens pitch out of the park. Either way, they did not.
