View Full Version : Reheating Food: Oven or Microwave?

I prefer the oven. My mom still does not own a microwave, so before college I had to use the oven. (Even for popcorn, Lulu makes the best popcorn on the stove.)
I used to think it was crazy to live without a microwave, but once I had access to one I'll pick the oven anyday.
Most people are too impatient, but it's worth it.

I fall into your "most people" catagory but I use some nifty microwaving techniques so I don't eff it up.

But the microwave is so much faster, it just makes sense.

My oven basically serves as extra counter space.

Game, you have no patience. It's much faster but the food doesn't stay as hot or get as evenly heated. Plus, think of how yummy pizza is reheated in the oven all crispy with melting cheese. Oh that's right, you can't have pizza on your diet can you?

I use the oven all of the time, eventhough I have a killer microwave. Actually, I generally use a toaster oven. You just can't reheat pizza or chicken in a micro.

Oven, dammit. My roommates use the microwave for EVERYTHING, even cooking soup. If I buy some frozen food and it comes with the instructions for oven cooking time, 'eff the goddamn microwave. It makes everything tastes like rubber.

Oven:
Because it is just right. For me at least. You don't get the rubbery feeling with the oven and plus rubbery things don't tend to do well in my mouth. The cheese does melt better and may even get browner if you give it a little extra time.
Stove:
Because it is so much more satisfying to make something in a pan or pot and give it the tender love it needs. To STIR the soup as it starts to get hot. Standing over the pot as you make your grits or rice and add the butter and salt at just the right times. Actually scrambling your eggs in the pan, hence SCRAMBLED eggs and not just pouring the eggs into a plastic bowl and letting the oven do all the work.
And yes they have the microwave to get hings hot quick so why is there not a microwave that freezes? For those times you have a warm drink and want to chill it quickly. Even to make some homemade slushies or smoothies or ice cream even. That would be so boss.

If there is a choice between Oven and Microwave I always use the microwave. I don't have the patience to pre-heat the oven, then let it cook 5 times longer.
Pop it in the microwave and get your food much faster.

So, would it be a macro wave? Probably not.
Gettting back to the subject, Oven. Id much rather wait to have delicious food than to have ok food. But i'm also a fan of the toaster oven. Pefevt for a couple slices of pizza or some wings. But there is also something to cold food. Yesterday i ate a rack of ribs straight form the icebox

Oven does require a little forethought, but the results are worth it. (I guess, I never remember).

I have a 1000-watt microwave with a carousel, so why waste it?
I rarely use the oven for cooking anymore, anyway... bless George Foreman and his grill.

Both.
I use the micro when I'm on the go, or i'm watching a really good movie and I need tacos n' cheese real fast.
Micros are good for thawing out frozen food to cook in the stove.
I like to micro my ice cream a little sometimes, just to get it a wee bit soupy.
On another note...Peachy and reefdwella sig pics one after another, niiiiiiice.

Depends on what it is.
I use the microwave to do things like boil water, reheat pasta, make microwave popcorn, etc.
I NEVER use the regular oven to reheat anything. For some reason it seems like a huge waste of energy to me. It also takes far too long.
I do use the toaster oven to reheat stuff a lot though. It is much much quicker than an oven, much more effective for reheating things like pizza, and excellent for cooking frozen cookie dough. Seems more energy efficient too, though I have no data to back that up.

honestly, this is the third choice that hasn't been said that i use all the time.
if you want pizza right you need to do it in a toaster oven, that's the only way it comes out perfect. screw the other 2 options.
. Oh that's right, you can't have pizza on your diet can you?
and you can't get any good pizza in texas so what are you talking about? at least if he's dying for it he can go off his diet, you need to leave texas everytime you want a good slice.

depends on the food in question. Personally micro wve in general is a last resort tool. It always makes the food taste different. I also liek ot stik the food in the place where it came form for example your steak is cold, throw it bakc on the grill, your french fries are cold back in the deep fryer they go, and if the piza is cold in the oven it goes. Generally if im 2 stoned or drunk to operate open flames, hot oil, or anthing gas powered then ill go to the microwave. not just for my safety but for yours. :)

Toaster oven all the way.
The oven takes too long to heat, and the microwave kills the food.
