View Full Version : Cosmetic Surgery

I was half-watching The Pulse on Fox tonight as I was doing laundry and cleaning. There was a story of a woman who went through a total body make over. One of the reasons sited was because she was afraid she'd lose her husband.
Sure, after the surgery, she said her self-esteem improved and her husband is "flirtatious."
Great.
My questions:
1. Would you go through cosmetic surgery for fear of losing a mate?
2. Aside from the original question, is there anything you'd change about yourself (surgery or not)?

I'd like to alter myself to look like Pat Morita.
........or at least switch faces with Pat like Nic Cage and John Travolta in Face/off. Then I'd advertise for Colgate and no one would know the difference. Muhahahahaahaah!!!

after dedicating myself to the body for life program for 1 year(its supposed to take 12 weeks) and still having manboobs at 178lbs i absolutely would have the surgery when i get the money.
1) Nope, plastic surgery is for ugly people.
2) I'd get elbow extensions.

As usual, no one takes me seriously, with the exception of hyperspace.
Sure, there are things I'd like to change. After a very stressful year, I wish I weighed less. I also wish I had a more pronounced upper lip.
Aside from that, I wouldn't change much else.

Not that you're running out to get this done or anything, but if you ever think seriously about this procedure, ponder this: Have you ever seen someone who has had their lips "done" that didn't look freakish & unreal? I worked for a doctor for 10+ years & I can honestly say I never saw a set of surgically enhanced lips that looked right.
BJ lips are nice, but if I were a woman, I don't think I would take the chance...too many mess-ups. Besides, there' something to be said for a nice set of China-doll lips, too.

1 - i'd like to think that my mate wouldnt leave me over something like that...
2 - of course there are things i'd like to change about myself. there are about a million. i dont know that i'd ever go ahead and get surgery to change them, though. it's just scary and there are so many ways that things could go wrong. and, of course, there's something to be said for learning to be happy with yourself, no matter what flaws you may have. by the time i'm 40 and rich, if i haven't come to terms with it all, maybe i'll go ahead and have a complete overhaul

I was born with a cleft lip, which I had repaired when I was an infant, but I still have the crooked nose that went along with it. I was thinking about having some plastic surgery this summer to try and straighten it out. Everything else is in place (sick time, health insurance, available cash) so it seems like the best time to see if it's possible. I still have to find a surgeon and set up a consultation, so we'll see how it goes. My worst fear is that it gets screwed up and is made worse than it already is.
As far as having cosmetic surgery to keep my mate interested - no, for Arienette's reason.

eww. her arms are so freaking bony and her lips scare me.
i think almost every girl has thought about doing something, but i doubt i'd ever go through with it. i'm really not so unhappy with a part of my body that i can't live with it. and i would definitley not do it for someone else, screw that. there's someone out there who will love me for who i am.

I'm totally pro-surgery. I've had my nose done (best thing I've ever done. What a honker I was cursed with) and boobs a couple times. The way I think about it, you're only young once, why not enjoy it and know what it's like to feel attractive. I feel bad for people who go through life unhappy about some physical aspect that can so easily be fixed. Life is short, why not be as happy as you can be? However, you should NEVER do it for someone else. If your significant other is that hung-up on physical appearance that you feel you NEED to do this to keep them, he/she is probably going to leave you when you're fat and old anyway. Don't bother indulging them now.

Lisa, as usual, you have managed to cut through the crap and get to the point.
Would I have surgery in order to keep/be more attractive to a mate?
Hell FUCKING no. If they can't accept me for who I am now, how is changing going to help things?
Would I have it if I could afford it?
Sure, why not? Of course, I'd like to start working out to see if I still felt the need to do it. . . ask me in a year. :)

I found a surgeon, had a consultation and I've decided to have some work done. I'll be getting part of my upper lip moved so that the space between the points of my upper is centered beneath my nose (the distortion was a byproduct of the cleft lip), getting the scar from the cleft lip redone and getting the deviated septum in my nose straightened out. I'm also getting the left side of my nose (the side where the cleft lip was) reconstructed which involves taking a piece of cartilege out of one of my ears. It's scheduled for July 10 provided the pre-admission testing and everything else goes well. I'm looking forward to it.

question 1 > no surgery for me... if we don't love each other the way we are then it's not worth staying together
question 2 > i did have my back waxed 2x's last year and i liked the result, the process stung quite a bit... it's not like it looks like i have a sweater on, i have a few patches of hair in a few areas but i prefer the bare back...

1). I would not change for anyone else.
2). I don't have anything that I am that hung up on, that I feel I need to change. But if there were something that I was unhappy with I would definately change it.

Plastic surgery can be terrific if done for oneself. It can improve self-esteem, and as mentioned above fix congenital problems and breast reduction is a real issue for women with large breasts, the weight can cause severe back problems.
If your bf or gf can't love you for who you are, chances are you're with the wrong person.

I had my nose and lip redone last Thursday. Now I'm home recovering for a week. The doctor said my septum was so bad that he didn't bother taking any cartilege out of my ear but instead repositioned some of the bone and cartilege in my nose. He seemed pretty proud of the fact that he didn't need to use any splints. So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing even though there's still plenty of swelling and plenty of glue and stitches still in place. The before and after photos should be interesting.
