OK - so we took a walk down memory lane with WPIX.

Anyone remember the old Channel 5 News?

The crazy old guy with the thick black glasses and his conservative editorial rants, Dr. Martin Abend?

The alcoholic weatherman Tex Antwan and Mr. Weatherbee?

The old home of Gabe Pressman and John Miller?

Tex Antoine was a legend. A weather guy who drew his maps on an easel as he went, "dressing" his charecter for the next day. He did the 6 o'clock report "straight" and I ,assume went straight to the bar till the 11 o'clock. His "when rape is inevitable, just relax and enjoy it" got him the boot from tv ( how did that get worked into the weather?)

"It's 10:00 P.M. Do you know where your children are?" was MUCH scarier back in the day. They kept it simple...no music, no visuals, just a scary "it's 10:00 P.M."

Come to think of it, there must have been some visual...maybe just words on a black screen. Does anyone remember?

Tex was on WABC, Channel 7. They fired him.
I remember when Bill Jorgensen was the anchor on WNEW, which was owned by a company called Metromedia.
They taped "Wonderama" in the same studios.
Now I'm having flashbacks of "The David Susskind Show"!

Heckler is right, it was on the Channel 7 Eyewitness News, I actually saw it. They had just done a piece on a girl who had been raped and then they tossed it to Tex for the weather. He started off with "Confuscius say, when rape is inevitable..." and then did the weather and they went to commercial. When they came back Roger Grimsby immediately apologised for the comment and Tex never worked again. Kind of sad, I once spoke to someone who knew him and they said he was a genuinely nice person.

Today he'd be fired twice, once for the rape joke and once for the politically incorrect usage of Confuscius.

Tex was also on Channel 5. He was a boozer and certainly not politically correct. He might have had his last life at Channel 7, but his heydey was on Channel 5.

On the topic of Tex Anton, the girl they were talking about was a teenager.

WNEW to WNYW FOX TV
and to this day they still use the old
It's 10 o clock do you know where your children are? So everyone could run to their kids room and make sure they were sleeping. But there was nothing wrong with that. They cared.
