Are you a "butter and salt" person or a sugar person?
Me...butter and salt all the way.

i've never had grits and, come to think of it, i dont know that i've ever had cream of wheat either. but, generally speaking, i'm more of a sugar person. there's really only one salty thing i like...

I like cheese in my grits and butter on my cream of wheat, but no added sugar. Still, I haven't had either in ages.

Light sugar, thin sliver of butter. I haven't had them in about a year, but now "I've got a 'hankerin' for some." Damnit, now I'll need to pick some up after work.

Grits are so awesome. They aren't common up here but damn you go down south and they are so common and good. I was in Louisiana and had them every day. And we were in South Carolina recently and that state's specialty is shrimp and grits, really really great.
Grits..they ain't just for breakfast anymore. They are the other white hot cereal. All hail the grit.

Thank you Chairman, people look at me crazy when I say I love grits. Although I didn't have them until I moved here, but I'm addicted.
Cheese melted in the grits, then I add butter and salt. MMmmmm perfection.

cream of wheat: sugar
grits: butter and salt...
grits have more body than cream of wheat...holds up better to butter and salt...plus they taste horrible with sugar...
since wheat is used in a lot of cereals the pairing isn't that unusual..

Cream of Wheat- Sugar and milk
Grits- Butter and Sugar.
I ALWAYS substitute the Hash Warms(they never actually get BROWN) for grits everytime at Dennys and other fine establishments.

Cream of Wheat the way my mom made it:
The kind you have to cook for a few minutes (so there are some lumps in it), with butter, sugar, and milk.

You'd fit in just fine in Texas, plus, there's a Waffle House on every damn corner.
Has anyone ever had white gravy? I never had it until I came here, but that's what they smother on Chicken Fried Steak and they eat biscuits and gravy as a meal. These wacky southerners.

White gravy? Absolutely. Nothing like biscuits and gravy the way my aunt (from Fla.) makes it. Gotta sop up all that gravy, clean the plate.
When I went down to NC a few months back, my friend and I went for breakfast and he wouldn't touch the grits, he thought they looked "scary". I had them plus some sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs. But I was really hoping for some S.O.S. Haven't had that in a while....

Has anyone ever had white gravy?
I have gotten pretty good at making Country Fried Steak with the white gravy (thanks Rachel Ray). I like a bit of pepper in the white gravy to give it a little kick.
Sausage Gravy on the biscuits though. I would have hit the Waffle House today but I saw it AFTER the exit. I know now for next time though. They got some great food.

This could really be taken in so many different ways and a good way of scaring me away from any restaurant that described their food like this.
I really want to explore the south a bit more though. My Dad had some great stories about Alabama when he was in the service.
