I'm not all thaT concerned with SARS. I mean, this is no where near as big as the pandemic of 1919.

I have been thinking about this book for weeks now. The similarities are chilling.

The Stand was a thinly veiled updated tale on the christian myth of religious armagedon complete with god and devil allegory.
Nontheless, it's a terrific book. Another book with the same basic premise that goes in another direction is Swan Song by Robert McCamon (I'm not sure about the last name). Highly recommended.

Although I thought that "The Stand" was a great read, "Swan Song" was more entertaining in it's rich imagery and storyline.

Yet not nearly as much as the "Left Behind" series. What an unimaginative, "700 Club" toilet read that is!

"Are we living 'The Stand'?"
The book, the mini-series, or that song by The Alarm?
Personally, I'm living "Cruel Shoes" by Steve Martin.

Thats the basis of my whole cool theory of the Flu. See, we didnt really have the flu until the early part of the 20th Century, and then in WW1 you had all these scientists messing around with all these different gasses and chemical warfare. I believe someone was f'ing around and accidentally created the flu...but i think we'll never know the exact truth cause those papers have probably been burned/destroyed, or no one knew they had done it
I thought the Stand was a great book, and i liked the mini series as well, although it scared the hell out of me.
Hey Rooster, you know in the book Trashcan Man gets butt f'ed by some random guy?

Now by theory, do you mean paranoid delusion? You think someone bio-engineered a plague in 1918? They hadn't even defined a virus by that point. They simply didn't have the technology.

With everyone messing around with all sorts of gasses and such..how do we know they didnt?

Becauses you don't "make" viruses out of gasses. That's just crazy talk. That's like assuming throwing a bunch of sugar, milk and eggs around will room will automatically make you a cake.

I didnt say that...im inferring the possibility that because everyone was experimenting with new types of weapons, including gas warfare, someone couldve had a germ warfare program that went awry...

OK, real scientists DIDN'T look like THIS back in WW1...

They just didn't have the means or the know-how at the time.

My god. I forgot what a flaming homosexual Dr. Mindbender looked like.... Just get a picture of that guy who dressed like a bird, too... the hell was hasbro thinking?
Oh, and to try to stay on topc... I had to deal with some real "Left Behind" fanatics when I worked at Barnes and Noble...
...no wait, that wasn't the topic... how about...
I never read The Stand, but there is a case of SARS in Westchester, NY... yikes...

What?
Hippie brought up "Left Behind" in relation to "The Stand" as another Christian apocalypse - themed book
I Worked at Barnes and Noble, what, 3-4 years ago. People were like crack addicts for the next book in the series... hell it was almost as bad as Harry Potter...
