Stop the generalizing! Stop the labelling! Fuck war, abortion, affirmative action, school vouchers and unions... I'm protesting against LABELLING! (the verbal and written labelling of people, that is)

All it does is show how unable you are to listen to people and comprehend two sides of an issue before making your choice as to where you stand. It's making this forum impossible - and often largely useless - to read when every single fucking thread degenerates.

I'm concerned more about the real differences that exist between the two main opinions. I'm afraid that the consequences of the split within America will leave a longer and worse legacy than the war in Iraq. First, many people at the "peace" protests have been handing out fliers with really vitriolic language and misinformation. One "peace" leader at Columbia even advocated supporting the Iraqi army. Second, there may be a desire among mainstream conversative Americans to "punish" these protestors who appear to threaten their security, values, and the continuity of the US from within.

It will interesting to see how both issues are addressed.

Labels are often a useful and accurate form of classification. You are a scientist. Would science be better off without the labels "Phylum, genus, species" and so on, or more specifically, labels like "mammal", "homo sapien", etc.? Hardly.

So what is it that you are really objecting to when you are objecting to the use of labels? I suspect you are referring to "name calling" rather than addressing and responding in a reasoned way the argument or point being presented.

If you apply the clear and rigorous thought processes that you use in your scientific pursuits to all areas of your thinking, you will be a force to be reckoned with. I say this, because you are very smart.
