I remember this show as a child. I went through a period where I was totally infatuated with the black dancer, Darcel Wynn. But I forget what this show was about. Was it a contest like Star Search or a Variety Show like American Bandstand? I just remember the dancers and Darcel. Anyone remember the hosts?

Solid Gold was basically a disco-esque American Bandstand. Kinda like a retro "M-TV: The Grind". I believe it aired on "WPIX" in NYC area. I'm not 100% certain but I think the host was the sidekick Italian guy from "T.J Hooker" who was also the lead in "Grease II". Solid Gold was the white man's "Soul Train"..... so beautifully old school. Great topic!

Yeah but what was the purpose of this show? I just remember the dancers and the hosts, although I think Andy Gibb was not the original host.

I was more of a "Dance Fever" fan, hosted by Denny Terrio, who later claimed that series creator Merv Griffin sexually assaulted him.
