Now that its Spring...

I havent listened to WNEW in a while and quite frankly Im scared to turn it on. Last I heard they NEW were supposed to flip formats this spring...its been Spring for a week now, how long is this gonna take?

Who cares? Ron and Fez wont be on, thats for sure. And theres already every kind of music on NY radio, so is it really a big deal? No. Effum.

READY TO START ANEW? It looks as if the much-abused WNEW/102.7 FM is actually going to start its long-rumored new format on April 10, according to sources inside and outside the station.

After weeks of staffing details being reported in the trade and local press, area radio reporters have gotten invitations to a party on that date, which reads, in part: "A new 102.7 FM starts here."

The shock-talk and one-time free-form station suffered a disastrous blow last summer when stars Opie and Anthony were fired after a stunt involving sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Since then its ratings have fallen into virtual insignificance.

There has been much speculation that, using a new name but the same call letters, it is to be turned into an adult-contemporary entertainment/lifestyle format, with frequent features as well as music, oriented slightly toward a female audience.

We need to forget about WNEW...
It was a great, innovative rock station,
A near-great, innovative extreme-talk station,
now its moving on to something else,
great or not, with or without us.

O&A won't be back,
R&F won't be back,
even Eddie F'n Trunk won't be back.

We've just got to support our guys,
and hope, pray (and send mail) that they get
picked up by someone else in our listening area.
