The past year or so NYC has been deteriorating as far as quality of life. First it was more and more homeless people all over the place, then it was strikes by anyone who had a grievance, then graffiti making a comeback, and lastly everything is getting more and more expensive. The latest thing is that the squeegee men are back and in full force. I hope that NYC doesn't become like it was in the '80s. Maybe we need Guilliani back.

We definitely need Giuliani back! He did wonders for this city. Because of his public safety policies I can feel safe walking around in almost any part of Manhattan. And yeah, I agree, Bloomberg has done a shit job so far.

I know exactly what you mean. All of the graffiti on the subway cars, all of the hookers on the streets at night, all of the porno theatres and peep shows, all of the gangs on the streets at night. Geez, it's just like a scene from "The Warriors".

Recently I saw the squeegee men when coming in from the Lincoln Tunnel and also along the aves going to the Midtown Tunnel. But much earlier from never seeing them anymore I began seeing them here and there.

Signs NYC is becoming crappy:

Squeege guys take credit cards...literally

Hookers are unionized and charge by the minute.

Cops know where to get the best drugs.

Your neighbor is a shifty guy named Saddam.

Hookers are unionized and charge by the minute.

So you can buy, like, 3 minutes worth? (Gotta have time to wash up afterwards).

I'm probably WAY in the minority, but I always liked a "Taxi Driver" style NYC...it always made the visits more fun and exciting...NYC in the late 90's was like going to a really, really crappy theme park TRYING to be NYC. Blech. BRING ON THE SCUM. If it's good enough for the nation's capital, it's good enough for everyone else!

I guess Jersey ain't that bad after all...

I would have to say that I've never gotten "squeegeed" in Jersey...

Yeah I know what you're gonna say, "Jersey Smells"... but that is only near exit 12, 13, and 13A...

:)

I been preaching that for years. It is the factories near Elizabeth, not the entire state of New Jersey. There is a huge difference between North Jersey and the rest of this state as beautifully cited by Christopher in the "Pine Barrens" episode. I was SO HAPPY that fact was acknowledged on such a widely viewed show.

Years ago (long before they put that barrier up on the Turnpike) I lived JUST off of exit 13. You could see the Exxon plant across the tpk from my bedroom.

Nearly every kid on the block had asthma, ADD, or a combination of the two.

I remember the year everyone rejoiced because they found LIVE FISH swimming in the water of Port Elizabeth.

..and if you think the smell is bad as you drive by exit 13, you just try living there on a hot, muggy August night....

Squeege men are back. One came up to my car last night. Also the homeless people have started coming up to cars again asking for money. I feel bad for them, but when I'm driving alone in the city, I don't like ANYONE to be walking up to my car and knocking on the window.

I WISH guiliani was back... he really kept things in order... I would be interested in seeing how guiliani would handle the protestors.

Get Dennis Leary to get rid of the Squuegee guys and their "buskets" Just as he did in Suicide Kings give them $20 dollars and if they are seen trying to squuegee again they get shot and killed simple solution

Another sign people letting their dogs just shit on the sidewalks and streets and not cleaning it up

and the #1 thing that makes it crappy: Policeman are no longer anally raping foreigners with broom sticks

thank you ill be here all week

War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is worth more then his personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of men better then himself - John Stuart Mill

i liked Guliani and think he did a great job..BUT

the current situation in NY cannot be blamed on a simple change in Mayor. Gulaini had tubs full of money at his disposal, the City and the country was at an all time Financial high - everyone was spending, there was no terrorism.
This bloomberg may have the personality of a sand crab, but he is probably working with 1/100 of the budget and headaches guliuani was. Eliminating sqeegie guy ( as great an idea as that is!) has to come behind the economy and terrorism.

that said - if that mooching, annoying, smelly peice of shit accosts me ONE more time when i come out of the subway for change, im gonna lose it.

actually, here is why NYC has become crappy

not many nudie bars
all the clubs are shutting down
the lower east side is safe to go into
to much eurotrash coming into my neighborhood
you cant brown bag it anymore
if you get into a fight, there will be a cop there within 2 seconds
you can go to coney island at night

AND FINALLY

Rich Vos can perform at the Apollo

and also, like someone said before... last i remember it is called new york CITY. a city isn't supposed to be the burbs. if you want the burbs come to jersey or go to long island.

like someone said before, a city's appeal is also the "not so safe" part. even though i would be looked at as one of those people that are gunna mugg ya(and you are probably right)... but hey, thats what makes a city... not tree's and happiness and tyed dyed t-shirts...

GOD DAMN HIPPIES
