ok ive decided to combine both the sports and game part of this forum and create a lil game of ESPN's Around the Horn with myself as Max....the way the game will work will be that we will have a first round where anyone is allowed to comment, and i will pick 4 people to be the contestants....systematicly i will narrow it down til we have one winner.

I hope people will do this since i think we need to debate sports more here.....

The First Word is Baseball: with the season slowly approaching us and suspensions already being hammered into people what do you see for americas passtime: War, Offseason, Predictions and we go around the horn to....

Baseball will be back stronger than ever. The best thing that could've happened was a low budget team like the Angels winning it all last year. This gives many other small-market teams and thier fans a reason to return to the ballpark...at least for the first couple of months untill the Brewers are 15 games under .500

Americans will need a distraction if this war goes long. Baseball will do the job nicely unless they do something again to piss off the fans. Labor issues? Keep 'em to yourself and don't try to make the American public feel sorry for you while men and women are dying overseas...NOT GONNA HAPPEN! Baseball will be fine this summer despite its every attempt to shoot themselves in the foot.

Outcomes? Let see who will not be winning the World Series this year...

1. Yankees
2. Mets
3. Red Sox
4. Atlanta
5. Philadelphia
6. Minnesota
7. Anaheim

It's either going to be Arizona or Houston from the National League and Oakland or Yankees from the American League. My picks?

Houston vs Oakland .....HOUSTON WINS!

Fans will probably be anxious for baseball due to the war and pending on how long it lasts and its severity.

Predictions: A's vs. Atlanta World Series with the A's winning.

Side note comment: Who really gives an f' to pay a shit load of money to watch these games live? Does anyone remember how they walked out on the fans in 95'? Does anyone recall last season when they were going to do it again? It's coming back around in 4 yrs too when the next contract comes up which will include removing teams from the league. Last season I couldn't watch a yankee game on tv and I'm supposed to care about how they do? Give me a break! I follow nowadays strictly for fantasy baseball leagues...nothing more.

Also...I hate Bobby Valentine on ESPN's Baseball Tonight. He is so damn annoying and irritating!

i concur except replace hockey with basketbal...especially since we are nearing playoff time andthe knicks just might make the playoffs...ofcourse its a long shot but hey if the jets could do it why not the knicks? and the nets current downfall....its just sad....its giving AI a huge opportinuity to come out of the season with Atlantic title.

and the West is shaping up to be beautiful basketball... KG may finally be able to take his team past the first round.....hte lakers are probably going to face the spurs or the kings in the first round and the winner of that series has to be the odds-on favorite to win it all... but the winner will still have to get past the offensive juggernaut that is...Dallas.

am i a contestant?

oh wait u wanted baseball rite....surprise surprise the Yankees sadly win yet another championship.... and baseball continues to be the question of who will lose to them.....while i cry in the corner because the mets have failed me yet again....

Maybe you should change the rules or something...

Baseball will do the job after everyone is done with th NHL and NBA playoffs and until the NFL season begins. There are gonna be some good teams all over the place this season. In the American league I think youre gonna have the Yanks winning the east, Minnesota wins the central and the A's in the west with the Red Sox or Anaheim as the Wild Card. In the National league you have some really good teams all over. In the east you got the Braves or the Phillies, maybe the Mets if they play up to expectations. In the middle ya got the Cardinals, maybe the maybe the Cubs if they play up to expectations. Astros have a chance but also have a lot of competition. And in the west you got the D'Backs, though I would love the Dodgers to win it. If the same thing thing doesnt happen with them losing their last 15 games or so the Dodgers should be the wild card. My predictions for the finals: Athletics vs. Cardinals with the Athetics coming out as the victors.

I kinda like this game, good job

Baseball is a dying sport. Its fans are twice as old as its players and make 1/100000000 of their salalry.
There is a reason football and basketball has overtaken it as this county's number one sport.

ok our 4 panelists for this month are:

Tall James

Metal Satan

FiveB 24 7

and.....in a surprise move

Phixion (sorry stickyfingaz but even though he presented the wrong arguement he presented it well)

okay, here are your 3 topics to argue over in the Buy or Sell round....

1) since the allstar break there hasnt been a more dominant force in basketaball then the Philidelphia 76'ers BUT, even if they get through the Eastern Conference, do they even stand as a threat to any team that comes out of the West?

2) With the stanley cup playoffs coming up soon, the defending champion Detroit Red Wings have had a weaker and more injury riddled season than last year....So, buy or sell the Detroit Red Wings as POSSIBLE defending champs....

3) Roy Jones Jr. has openly said that would he like to fight "Iron" Mike Tyson after his fight with the aging Evander Holyfield...Buy or Sell Jones chances against a well prepared Tyson

arguments are due by Thursday good luck to you four!

Free Yerdaddy

phixion

the sixers have the best shot against any west coast team....AI has the heart of champion and the toughness of a bulldog, and AI's supporting cast goes almost as deep as the Kings. will the sixers win the chamionship? probably not but i do guarantee exciting basketball...i mean look at the first 3 games of Sixers vs lakers 2 years ago....that was the most exciting games in the finals in years!

Detroit may be riddled with injuries but champs play through pain.... detroit will play gritty, tough hockey well enough to get them far into the playoffs..however the test of colorado is always exciting hockey

as for Mr jones taking on Mr tyson i think jones may be running his mouth but if tyson were to ever fight jones he would not prepare at all....he would view jones as a non threat...and i see that as Jones jr.'s best shot. Jones would end up reliving buster douglass's nite. but if tyson prepares.....i dont think anyone could stop him.....

by the way thanks for including me on the panel.

this upcoming baseball season will have at least 2 members of the 500 home run club. Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmiero are definitely in this year. Griffey Jr if healthy can join the 500 club and if Fred McGriff can also join. Who knows what A- Rod might do this year, he might break the 60 hr mark

Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

First off, thanks for picking me...

1) This isn't even an arguement. The 76'ers are a competitive team in the Eastern Conference...but to even think they or anyone else in the East can stand toe to toe with the best of the West....you're insane! Iverson and the 76'ers are a one man show with Iverson shooting 12 of 30 shots a night in small margined victories. He's not enough to take this team or any other team on his shoulders alone and actually win it all. He's no Jordan. At best he'll get them to the Finals and in a good series...they'll steal 1 game. The Western Conference is stacked. The Mavs, Kings, Lakers, Houston, or Spurs could all easily whoop the 76'ers in a 7 game series. Who ever gets through the Western Conference will be primed to win it all. The Best in the East ranks somewhere in the middle of the pack in the West. If you're a 76'ers fan...hope that you'll be hanging the Eastern Conference Championship Banner....cause that's all you'll be getting.

2) The NHL playoffs are the toughest to win amongst any sport. The Red Wings are stacked with All Stars and some of the leagues finest. But I think due to their age and tougher competition this year, they won't make it back to the finals for the cup. I see either Colorado or Dallas knocking them off. Detroit reached the goal of Cup-dom last year....and this year will be the slowdown back to mediocrity for their older, veteran team. They will bow out and begin to rebuild next season with the loss and retirement of older players.

3) Jones Jr will beat an older, slower Holyfield. Jones Jr is quick, smart and great enough to work him through the late rounds. As for Tyson, he's wild, undisiplined and not the fighter he once was, nor we always look to see. Jones Jr would take Iron Mike apart by ring knowledge, keeping the fight in his style and not letting Tyson go wild. Jones Jr has always displayed his talent by dragging out bouts into late rounds and often winning by decisions, not quick KO's. Tyson is the exact opposite. Jones Jr. would win this match-up easily.

Tall_James

1. With no dominant presence in the middle and Keith Van Horn folding faster than Superman on laundry day...the Sixers have NO chance against any of the elite teams in the West. Iverson is the glue holding this team together but while he may be as strong as Elmer's Glue...the Sixers need some form of Super-Epoxy to hold together against the Kings, Spurs, Mavs, etc....

2. SELL SELL SELL.....the only thing repeating in the NHL this season is the thought that this league is in serious trouble.

3. BUY BUY BUY......Tyson can hold his own against brawlers. Put a boxer in a ring with him and he gets taken apart. Jones will box and Tyson will get insane and do something stupid (again). Jones in 8. Then Tyson will say something stupid, cash his $5 million paycheck and go punch his tigers in the nads.

1) So Philly is playing pretty good right now, big deal! The west is just too big, too strong, TOO GOOD! The Sixers have nothing going for them except Iverson. They dont have a center after giving up Mutombo and MacChulloch out with his "condition". SO if they go up against the Lakers, whos gonna guard Shaq, even more, whos gonna guard Kobe? McKie?! Say...the Kings...whos gonna stop their 2 big men, Divac and Webber? Or Peja? or Bibby? No eastern team is a favorite to win the playoffs.

2) SELL! Not a big hockey person so I'll just say what I know. Theres better teams in the NHL then the Red Wings. Sure they got Brett Hull and Shanahan, but as the Rangers have proven, scoring isnt everything. I dont think Detroit can match up against Ottowa or New Jersey.Or Vancouver. Or Dallas. Sure they have a legitimate chance but frankly so do the Bruins. No cup for Detroit this year.

3) SELL! He's fast, He's beaten guys bigger and stronger than him, and he's the best pound for pound boxer in boxing but can he remain standing after taking a hook from Tyson? Can he last the 10 rounds against Tyson? I dont think so. Unless he runs around the ring for an hour straight he cant beat Iron Mike. If he get anywhere near Tyson he's in danger of getting hit, and Jones isnt known for absorbing punches. In fact Im not sure he can even beat Holyfield.

BTW, do we get points like the do on TV?

2) Over the past 20 years Aronold Schwarzenager has given us some amazing film, the man who created the action hero is still going strong today, so which of his performances do you think is the best?

3) Finally, HBO has been dominating at the emmys the past two years now, but it seems that there might be a shift in power with Six Feet Under being the Flagship show, SO, what is the BEST show on HBO today?

1)Justin as in I wanna be just like Michael Jackson Justin? Bah! The future of pop? There is no future of pop, all thats left is Rap and Rock. All MTV plays is rap videos and puts in a couple of rock one. Only time MTV2 plays rock is during Control Freak and moving on to radio, hell even KRock plays rap! Jeez pop is dead, rap is bigger than ever and my only getaway are my Ozzy and Metallica CDs.

2)How bout the Last Action Hero? That was a nice movie wasnt it? Ugh. Id say his best movie was Terminator 2 and thats not saying much.

3)Without a doubt the Sopranos is their most popular as well as most successful show. After every episode all I hear all over the place are people talking about the Sopranos. Its definitely their best show. As far as Six Feet Under goes, Ive watched 2 episodes of that and I want those 2 wasted hours of my life back!

What kinda questions are these? Arnold, HBO and one about a fag, boy-band retard?
I am pleased and appreciative to making it to this round, but come on buddy.

Here's my answers:
1) If either one of those 2 ass clowns are the future of music...I'm cutting off my ears.

2)Arnold hasn't made a good movie since the orginal Terminator. The rest are awful jokes which are mildly entertaining cause of his bad dialogue and goofy action sequences.

3) HBO is trying to match the success of the Sopranos with various other shows. The Sopranos is falling off bad, Sex in the City is ending (which I hate this show), Six feet under is questionable. They are throwing shit out and hoping it sticks.

1. Hmmmm, let's see. Donnie Wahlberg is starring in "Dreamcatcher". Joey McIntyre is starring in "Boston Public". And the other 3 guys are in a bar in West Roxbury Mass wondering what went wrong. Justin Timberlake is banging Alyssa Milano and making solo albums, Joey Fatone is starring in "Rent" and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", JC Chavez is slipping the sausage to Tara Reid (not that big of a thing, everyone has nailed her...including me) and Lance Bass is trying to have a faulty Russian rocket strapped to his ass to send him into orbit.

What's my point to my reasoning? There is none. I hate them all and they should all go away.

2. His greatest performance was in "Junior" when he actually convinced us that he was sexually attracted to the horse-faced Emma Thompson.

3. I don't subscribe to HBO. I got tired of seeing "Ghost Dad" starring Bill Cosby run 7 times a day. But for the sake of argument...let's say...hmmm....THE RETURN OF FRAGGLE ROCK!

Thanks Winter..Glad to be a finalist. This new game rocks! (especially with more gooder questions...hehe)

1) Mario Lemieux is not only getting older and slower...he's tarnishing his legacy. He's on the Penguins where no one is around him so they suck. This season he's getting into fights, obtaining penalties and giving his greatness of the past a lessor image now. You look at Brett Hull, he's breaking records, on a winning team, can still play the up-tempo hockey like he always has, and still is a sniper with the puck. Super Mario is no where near his old self. He is very similar to the Michael Jordan of the Wizards. You see glimpses of greatness...but when it comes down to it, they should just hang'em up and walk away.

2) Lebron James will probably end up with Cavs. They've practically been losing this season in order to draft him. They have even practiced with him. You can't promise anything with the NBA's stupid lottery ball system, but my estimate is that he will be in Cleveland next year. Knowing the history of the Cavs though, he'll be on the team for like 4 yrs and then be gone. The only way the Cavs would actually win next year though, is if Hot Rod Williams, Brad Daugherty and Mark Price joined Labron.

3) The Jets will make the playoffs next season for 3 solid reasons. First, Curtis Martin, he is the key to their offense. He runs for 1,000 yards and scores 7 td's a season on the average. With him healthy, Pennington can playaction and pass well; whether it be Coles or not....the Wr's will be open. Secondly, Herm Edwards is a defensive minded coach. He holds the defense with special regard cause he knows it will and can keep them in games. The Jets will remain strong on defense with draft picks and their core players from the defense returning. Lastly, the Jets will make the playoffs due to their team chemistry. Last season was the groundwork or foundation of building a contender. Team unity under the leadership of Pennington at QB, solid running from Martin as well as great special teams and defense. Most of their free agent losses have been replaced with comparable players, especially Coles being replaced by all pro Curtis Conway. Look out NFL.....J-E-T-S...jets jets jets are coming.

1. Sorry, I can't vote out Bret Hull. The guy is still getting it done, with a full head of hair and most of his original teeth. (take a look at a picture of his dad, The Golden Jet, towards the end of his career with the Blackhawks - he looked like a flesh-colored pumpkin for Christsake) Bret is knocking down records and as opposed to Mario, is going to the post season. Should he retire on top? Maybe. However I hear he has a taste for octopus and in Hockey town USA - those things are thrown around like NHL Groupies in a hot tub. You know who should retire....pick any 7 Rangers. They suck and will continue to suck.

2. You know who deserves LeBron James in the draft? Who the hell knows? David Stern is likely to rig the draft anyway like he did back in 1985 with the "frozen envelope" that contained the Knicks logo which got them Patrick Ewing. Don't be surprised if one of the 3 worst teams doesnt get James. The NBA wants this kid in a marquee town in the worst way and will do anything to get him. Oh yeah, the Cavs are tanking games right and left to get their mitts on this kid but overall, their chances stink like Lake Erie at low tide. My pick? And I hate to say it because it confirms my worst fears...he's going to the Knicks and the stink of this will taint this sport for years to come.

3. Ok, I'm taking the point that the Jets won't take the playoffs. Why? Because they are the Jets...thats why! Lets see, they have 2 picks in the top 20 overall and viewing their past draft history (Blair Thomas, Kyle Brady, Rob Moore) their shitty picks far outweigh their good ones (John Abraham). Secondly, when Coles and Pennington were on the second team, all Pennington did all day was throw to Coles. They built a relationship. That's ovah! Curtis is reliable and a great back...but the Jets are the Jets. They break your heart every year. Look at the Chicago game. When they should win the easy games...they dont. Pennington will be a great QB one day. Right now he is a really good one. And that alone won't get the Jets into the playoffs.
Oh. And the Heckler roots for the Jets. And he is cursed. There you go.
