How over is Sharkboy?

Wow I have been hearing such great things about this Indy wrestler. First he gained the biggest pops at recent XPW shows and now he has all of the fans in WWE popping huge for him in a dark match against Chris Kanyon.

My question is why is he so over? He has a simple outfit and a simple gimmick. From reports I have heard, he isn't all that special as a wrestler.

I was at the XPW Exit Sandman show where it started. And it was purely out of boredom. Who would you cheer, Chris Chetti or Sharkboy? Then when other matches got boring the crowd started doing a Shark/Shit chant. Then he walked out to share a beer with the SANDMAN during his "farewell"

Trust me, it's not all for him.
