Need Help PLEASE

when i go to bed i never shut down my computer. i have never had a problem doing it that way. But when i woke up yesterday my computer worked fine except for my internet connection. I use DSL and anytime this happens i log on and off and it works again. it didn't work yesterday morning or when i got home last night. so i called the online help number and after about an hour of trying nothing worked....they said my modem was responding fine and it is probably something on my PC. anyone have any idea what this could be? any help would be great...especially before 5 when i'm at work...not much good to me once i get home. thanks.

i have had similar problems, try turning off ur modem and turn it back on in about 5 minutes. then if that doesnt work reboot ur comp, if that doesnt work turn ur comp off for like a day,if it still doesnt work i dunno wat to tell u.

well i'm still having problems. the help desk told me its a problem with my windows millenium...so like a dumbass i went out and bought the upgrade to Windows XP. and that didn't work either. the tech guy i called after installing it told me that the ugrade wouldn't work because the same problem still exists. does this sound right to anyone? and if so would buying the original XP software work and not just the upgrade. i would just use my Compaq Recovery CD and then load the XP program. i would like to know though before i was $200 buying it. any help would be nice. thanks

You could've saved yourself money and just downloaded XP from the net. Do you live in NYC? I would've just gave you a copy.

see that's part of my problem....everything on my computer works fine, but my DSL connection. so i can't download anything. i live on my computer when i'm home...i'm so depressed right now. my tower is going to CompUSA today to see if they could help me. i moved to Vernon not so long ago and really don't know many people...especially one who could help me out.

Sometimes I lose my connection also. I have a cable modem so I'm not sure if this will work with dsl. right click start. click on run and type winipcfg. enter. then highlight your connection. hit release. settings should all go to zeros. then hit renew. hope this helps
