I see this poor bastard every night I'm out late with my friends. I come in at like 3 or 4 AM and there he is on ABC.

I gotta give this guy a lot of credit. He's a good news man. I just feel bad that the only time a black man gets to anchor the news is when there's next to no one up to see him.

ABC had a trio of network news anchors in the late 70's, one each in NY, DC and Chicago. The guy from Chicago was black, although I can't remember his name. I seem to recall he died of cancer.

Frank Reynolds was definitely one of the other two and maybe Peter Jennings.

Abstract: Television newsman Max Robinson died at the age of 49 in Washington, D.C.'s Howard University Hospital yesterday. Robinson had AIDS. In 1978, Robinson became the first black newsman to anchor a network television news program when ABC-TV named him one of three coanchors on "World News Tonight." He had become the first black to anchor a local news show in Washington, D.C., in 1969. In 1981, he angered ABC with a stinging attack on racism in television during a speech at Smith College. Despite his quiet, AUthoritative delivery and serious demeanor, Robinson was also known for being tempermental and moody, and for drinking too much. Robinson, who was born in Richmond in 1939, was married three times, and had four children. Family friend and spokesman Roger Wilkins, in a statement issued on behalf of the family, said, "During his battle with the disease, Mr. Robinson expressed the desire that his death be the occasion for emphasizing the importance, particularly to the black community, of education about AIDS and methods for its prevention. More generally he hoped that people would recognize the urgency of developing effective treatments of the disease and more humane policies towards its victims." Robinson had not discussed the nature of his illness before his death.

I just wanted to say that we all know that it SHOULDN'T MATTER who we get our news from. Black of white I just want a competent man or woman dilivering the news to me in a clear, well spoken manner.

But I'm also aware that Blacks were left out of many things in American society in the past and we're all starting to see them and other races come into all types of work places. I disagree with Affirmative Action programs because they set quotas and force companies to hire people who aren't as qualified to be hired over others simply due to their race. But I AM all for people of color getting on the news based on the merit of they're own performance.

This guy on at 4 AM is a pretty cool anchorman and I just feel bad that he's relegated to the overnight dude. Hows about you put him in as a rotating substitution for Peter Jennings too? Is that too much for us to handle?
