I know we kid around here about it. I just read this article about a couple of arrests of grown men engaged in sexually explicit conversation with who they thought were 13 yr old girls. These men were arrested when they made arrangements to meet these girls and were greeted instead by police officers.

Considering that many of us spend a lot of time online, and I consider many people that I only speak with through the board or via aim to be my friends, how concerned are you when you're online about what you're discussing or who you're discussing it with?

I don't give it much thought. I don't "cyber" because that has to be quite possibly the most pathetic thing I've ever heard of, and in general I treat the internet as an extension of myself and not a place where I can go and act out or pretend to be what I'm not.

I'm linking the article below.

kid touchers should b castrated. and i mean as soon as they give the guilty verdict, rite there in the court room, chop off his sack and penis, then cauterize the wound and make sure u tattoo the word 'kid toucher' on his forehead so that all the other inmates know who he is and get to beat the shit of him. Instead of exercise equipment in the yard, they should just have kid touchers tied up. the inmates can just beat the shit out of em for exercise. and yes im dead serious about all my suggestions. i also think these rules should b applied to rapists too.

I gotta agree with silera. i dont usually go on the internet to meet new people. i really only talk to friends, family, and occasionally people form the board. I have absolutely no respect for anyone who gets off on cyber sex, whether they're doing it with an child or adult. its fuckin retarded

I think about it quite a bit, you never know who is on the other side of the computer. Until I joined the board almost a year ago, I only used the internet for email and searching for info. I had never even IM'd before, but I must say I am very suspicious of people I meet online until I get to know them. Luckily, there are pics on rf.net from events that proves members are at least the gender and age they tell you and mods to ask about who someone is, but most of the internet doesn't have those resources. I would rather be too cautious than not cautious enough.

I really worry about my brother and sister more since they're both under 16 so I try to keep an eye on what they do...as long as they never try to go meet anyone in person without supervision I'll be alright. And since I've met alot of you guys and you're all 'normal', I don't even have a desire to meet many more people on the computer. I've gotten lucky and I don't want to push my luck. The internet is definitley a place kid touchers lurk and use to their advantage. They can all rot in hell for the shit they do.

PS I posted this at 4:20....light em if you got em!!

There they are, all horny and all, quivering with excitement....
On the subject of kid touchers, nice article in the current Vanity Fair on Michael Jackson.

Until I came to this site, I NEVER engaged in "chats" with people I didn't know on the web. I only e-mailed or ICQ-ed people I already knew. I've yet to try the whole "cyber" deal, because it seems really, REALLY retarded. How am I supposed to type with one hand? Sounds even worse than phone sex...

Of course, leave it to my damn studly model/lifeguard brother to buck the trends. He was 15 and struck up a random chat with some girl while we lived in Thailand, met her, and she turned out to be some 16-year-old Thai fashion model and they ended up dating for the better part of a year. Bastard. BASTARD.

I've tended to attract LONELY men while lurking in AOL chat rooms, hence my reluctance to even get AIM before it became the only way to have a conversation with my brother.

I've never actually done the whole 'cyber' thing, and would NEVER think of it with a stranger.

I used to worry that you all were creepy kid-touchers when I first heard about you from my brother. He finally allowed me to meet his closest friends this past October and I feel much better about those of you whose acquaintances I have made thus far.

Thanks for changing my mind. :)

PS - My best friend from high school met her husband in a now-defunct chat room online. They have been together for nearly 5 years and have a beautiful daughter who will be 4 in August. Some success stories deserve telling. :)

I do not chat at all... one reason is I can't type that fast and I feel like the little free time i have is too important to spend "kabitzing"...

It's a realistic concern for children and young adults who seem to be mesmerized by the conversation and do not understand the dangers that can be involved.

Judging from the stories you read or hear on the news there are numerous incidents and a vast ammount of people being arrested. There is no doubt that these predators are very coercive.

Parents need to monitor their kids computer activities closely, explain in detail the dangers and how cruel certain people can be to each other.

i don't worry about it for myself so much. as an adult, i think i know better than to put myself in a dangerous situation with someone i've met online. i am wary of people i meet because, obviously, you never know who or what they really are.

i'm more concerned for my cousin, who is eleven. i remember a fwe years ago, i was at her house and was talking online with a friend of mine, who was probably around 19 or so at the time. i left for a minute, and when i came back, my cousin was chatting with him. she had told him that she was 16. now, it wasn't a problem in this sepcific instance, since this was a decent guy, and i interjected and told him that she was really 9 (or whatever she was exactly). but i got to thinking about what should could be telling people out there. and how she believed everything people online told her - one person said they were nick carter from the backstreet boys, and she bought it. that scared the shit out of me. i warned her mother, and i think she started paying more attention to her online activities. people with kids should be very careful.

I'm still an online hermit. I'm on several mailing lists, on which I practice extreme lurking. I have accounts with every IM server, load up Trillian... and block everyone I don't know. It took me a month to even post on the board.

Before I figured out how to block everyone buy my buddylist on my IM, a stranger sent me an IM on AIM. It completely freeked me out. My response was, "who the hell are you, and why I are you talking to me."

So yeah, I pretty much assume all people online are overweight males in the twenties and thirties who live in their parent's basement, until proven otherwise.

Come to the shoooooooowwww...come to the shoooooooowwwww...clearly, going to another state and being in a small, enclosed, dark, crowded area with a man i've never met and know little about doesn't qualify as a "dangerous situation". of course, the fact that he's already admitted that he's going to try to rape me might...
