Did anyone see this brilliant movie last night on HBO? HBO has really set the bar high when it comes to drama, I don't think there's a network on television that even comes close. Queer as Folk has become a psuedo-edgy gay sitcom. All the issues are neatly resolved in the same episode, it's really insulting to watch.

Anyway, back to Normal. Mid-western family turned upside down when father realizes he should have been born a woman. Hilarity ensues...humanity prevails...

Were we watching the same movie? I was very much looking forward to it, because the HBO Movies these days have been on a roll ("A Gathering Storm" and the one about Johnson and Vietnam were better than most of what ended up in theaters last year) and because Tom Wilkinson was in it...but man, was I let down. Cheap sentimentality, really unbelievable charachters...blah. All in all, I was really, REALLY let down.

This show was fucking brilliant. It was serious, and still managed to have a sense of humor about itself. Catch the repeat when it airs. Let it speak for itself.

All jokes aside, "Normal" was a GREAT movie! (I thought I "saw" it the first time-- I actually fell asleep for the majority of it!). MY BAD!!

This was an AWESOME film! It's one thing to decide you want to become a "woman" in NYC or SF. It was a nice "twist on tales" to place it in the mid-west. I sincerely hope there are more "open-minded" people in the mid west.

Could this be the "New Minority: The Mid-West"?????

Anyway, great movie!! Jeff, I agree with you 100%; unfortunately it's mostly estrogen and some progesterone.

I still like beer and porn.
