recommendations on where to go in NYC

I'm headed into NY tonight with a friend. She just moved here and i promised i'd show her a good time. I was thinking of dinner and then some sort of a bar-lounge place to relax. Any advice?

take her to time square - go into the roxy diner by TKTS ( 48th and broadway) and take in a cheap show. The Roxy diner has the best cakes and sandwiches. Then you can walk up to the Hudson hotel (around 57th street) for drinks.

i've been hanging out in the LES for god knows how long... back before it was even safe to go down there... now it is straight up yuppifide and i hate it.

I liked when tompkins square park was a threat to walk through, and walking down ave. C was dangerous...

now yuppies and eurotrash everywhere
