I think the time has come for the music industry to stop paying "artists" with mediocre vocal ability. I'm willing to bet names are already starting to pop into your head. Some of these tracks I hear on the radio are reprehensible and pure garbage. These artists include but are not limited to:
1) Jennifer Lopez. There's not a song I like by J-Lo. Her voice is as flat as her chest, and I find it disgusting people are snatching up her cd's like they had the cure for cancer on the inside cover. She's hot...and she can dance, but enough is enough. She's no Billy Holiday, no matter how hard she tries to show her vocal dynamics.
2) Ashanti. Awful, and embarassing for a black woman. How dare she passes herself off as a soul artist. You're not Lauryn Hill you twat. You're not even Benny Hill.

She's hot...and she can dance
Jenny "from the block" is not that great. I know, I come from the same neighborhood and saw women more beautiful that she is every day at the bodega. Can she dance? I would like to know when gyrating became dancing. I thought that you had to move your feet occasionally. As far as mediocre talent, Jeez! Where do I start? Boy bands that are pretty indistinguishable from each other. I very rarely buy female artists because I refuse to buy image. I buy music.

Janet Jackson and Britney...
Don't see much of them but each time I see them I wait on that one strong note and never hear it...
Kenny Rogers was that way...
Haven't heard much of the strong vocals from Bono since the Joshua Tree...

Jennifer Lopez if you listen to any of her songs always stays with the same note pattern and progression. She never strays, never goes outside the box and never deviates. It's like staring at the white lines on an empty highway it's so numbing you look up and the song is over. And as far as her being hot , I love I mean I LOVE the chicas but she never did anything for me. Timberlake sounds like he took a near fatal shot to the nuts. His voice is all whiny and nasal. Basically almost anyone who's hot in pop or R&B now can't sing. Exceptions being: Faith Evans and Christina Aguilera. That bitch can sing her ass off.
What do you want from us? We're EVIL! EVIL!!!!!!

Ashanti
the bitch has no real talent. she can sing better than me, but thats about it. She brings 2 things to all of her songs: 1)jack and 2)shit
i love soul music, and i think that aretha has one of the best voices ever recorded. Ashanti has no fuckin soul in any songs. she just hits flat notes about some trite shit, and everbody thinks shes the best singer of the year. Alecia Keys could blow her ass out of the water. this ashanti-is-great-all-her-songs-are-wonderful horse shit infuriates me. i would punch her in the throat if given the oppurtunity.

The J-lo thing is a true mystery to me. I honestly do not know why she is famous. Her MOVIES DO NOT MAKE A NICKEL AT THE BOX OFFICE! Uturn, Angel Eyes, The Cell, Enough, Maid in Manhattan, Anaconda etc etc. Not one bona fide hit.
Her songs are mediocre at best, and I actually LOVE pop music. The liner notes for "Jenny From the Block" actually credit ELEVEN people as writers! ELEVEN!!!!
Her voice is an industry joke. Dare I say, she is actually a worse vocalist than Kelly Osborne! (it's a close race though!)
AND-
I really don't think she's all that good looking. Sure, she's pretty, but so are a million other chicks. I guess sleeping with Tommy Mottola really can make you a superstar.
Fez 4 Prez!!
I dunno, I think Alex Chilton's voice is pretty good.

Justin Timberlakei dont know about this one. whether or not you're a fan of his (which, for the record, i am not), i think this is unfair. the guy's got a good voice; it's dynamic and he has a really good range. it's a little high, maybe, but that doesn't make it bad.
the other exception, as noted, is christina aguilera. i'm not into her music, but goddamn it that slut can sing.

I couldnt have of disagreed anymore with you. I dont know what songs yu are listening to BUT you must hear all of her albums and the songs that DO NOT get played on the radio. She can sing, even though she does have an opera singers voice. Check out songs of hers such as "Love is a good thing", "I cant cry anymore", "I do what I can", and also "Safe and Sound". Besides you are grouping her songs in a different classification of music when in fact most of music is very borderline blues/ jazz like type songs.
This would be like comparing Luciano Pavoratti and BB King and saying that one is greater then the other when in fact they sing different styles of music.

On the same note why is screaming at the top of your voice into a microphone also called music. So many wanna be rock groups have guys who scream into a mic, sing a verse slow then continue to scream that is not music.
Ashanti is a very very very poor womans Erykah Badu--And Erykah Badu is probably the one that sounds the closest to a real performer and she can just about hit every note when she sings, she is absolutely phenomenal in person as well.
Music now is about the appeal the person makes on MTV not the radio, thats the reason these frauds last so long looks over talent

This is what I am talking about, I can't get past her image long enough to hear her music. It is too distracting. And to the Sheryl Crow fans out there, I like her fine on her albums but I remember being at the Eagles Hell Freezes Over Tour and this chick with a voice that just went through my head like a nail was opening for them. It was Sheryl Crow.
Ah, the beauty of in-studio production.
