I saw this on The Glue Sniffen's message board....

As New York's WNEW runs away from its former talk format, Infinity is programming it in Baltimore. It flips CHR/Rhythmic WXYV-FM to Talk as "Live 105.7". Howard Stern moves to WXYV from his longtime Baltimore home at WJFK-AM and airs 6-11am, followed by Bill Rohland and Steve "The Thrill" Hill (11am-3pm), Westwood One's Don & Mike (3-7pm) and Tom Leykis (7-10pm) and Premiere Radio Networks' Coast To Coast with George Noory (10pm-6am).

I'm a little suprised Infinity is programming Lekis in evenings in Baltimore. That's a PM Drive show and it won't work at night (it sure didn't in New York and that was *before* all the problems started at WNEW). I would have thought they would put Ron and Fez on at night given that Infinity programs the show in D.C.

Anyway...

Question: Why is Inifinity putting a hot talk format on another major market FM station while pulling it off in New York?

Answer: Howard Stern in AM Drive. *Whatever* the reason that didn't happen in New York, it was the single biggest mistake Infinity made with the format here. The sad part was that everyone knew it...

Conspicous by their abscence, naturally are Ron and Fez. But this is only good that Infinity is keeping some torches burning in this format. The way I see it, either Leykis gets dumped(but based on the area, I bet he's a hit). Or perhaps Ron and Fez take over latenights on tape delay, with perhaps and eye toward WJFK, hopefully WYSP latenights, and in a dream world, NY radio overnights somewhere. I apologize if this was already posted at RF.net, but I hadn't seen it and I thought it was big news and some of that hope we are keeping alive!

If it's on his board it's probably a novicaine induced hallucination.

Lickass is terrible. Two days worth of his stupidity is quite enough for me already.

I am, however, enjoying picking up R & F on the outskirts of Baltimore.

And regarding the "(but based on the area, I bet he's a hit)." comment - go shit in your hat. ;)

Ha ha, perhaps I didn't add enough depth to that. It's not a knock on Baltimore, however it seems like a lot of yuppie transients live and work in the surrounding suburbs, including based on accent, a sizeable southern population, and by all indications, folks from out west too. Baltimore and DC are the "friendlier" northeast cities in my experience, sort of a NY-lite, in good and bad ways, and the intensity is turned down and those folks can flow a little better there. So while Leykis' hackneyed bits didn't get over in NY, he obviously thrives elsewhere in the country, and since there are so many transplanted Marylanders, , the rest of the country has come there. It's by no means a knock on the indigenous population, but a reasonable assessment of the Beltway workforce.

Hey, maybe Infinity will do a smart thing until Tom Lickass is taken off the air and put on Ron and Fez in a "Best Of" on the weekends. This way we here in Baltimore who have to suffer with their choice for the evening show can at least get quality on the weekend. Is this something that would even be possible?

Hey man, knock Baltimore all you want. Actually, I am from DC.

DC is New York Lite? Indeed not. Something about the absence of verticality and the proliferation of politcal BM eaters makes my beloved town just as rank, perhaps, but with a defining twinge of institutional retardsmanship.

Frankly, I wouldnt have my hometown any other way.

That may be the best defense of D.C. I've ever heard (as a D.C. suburbanite)!!

The only thing I do know, is that I don't know....
