View Full Version : Movie reviews robbed me of a great cinematic experience
I fell for the movie review racket a while back. I wanted to see "Freddy got Fingered" but everyone gave it 1 star and said it was the stupidest movie ever and so on and so on.
I didn't listen to reviews on every single Norm McDonald movie or even for most Adam Sandler movies and paid the price. (Waterboy ruled- though) So I figured I'd better save myself the trouble.
Anyway I finally caught "Fingered" on HBO the other day and it was great!
How can you not love that parapalegic chick who just wanted to give blow jobs? Or the baby delivery scene? Or the Zebras in America comic?
Have you ever bought into a movie review and didn't go see the film as a result?

I just look at it like this:
All critics, be it music or movies or TV even, are nothing more than glorified fans. Why should I care what some douche says about an album or film. I never buy into it because I can make up my own mind. I trust opinions from FRIENDS before anyone else. You kind of have to know the persons tastes before giving an honest review to them.

I can tell 9 out of 10 times just by the movie preview if if will be a bomb or if I might like it. I don't listen to the reviewers, could care less what they have to say.
Most of the reviewers are just the people that couldn't cut it in the feild they review.

any "one" particular review means NOTHING, but 50 ..well, that means something. If the vast majority of reviewers pan or love something, i take note of that.
so i check a website called
http://www.mrqe.com
at a glance i can see the general consensus...and 95% of the time, movies with all 1 stars - DO suck, and movies that is universally praised, has ssome value.

That was an okay movie. Not as bad as the critics made it seem.

Every Friday I check Ebert's reviews which normally decide if i'll see a movie or not. I don't pay attention to reviews for comedies because they're normally reviewed very low.
But for example if I thought something looked good and it got a bad review I won't see it. Also if something looks like shit but gets a good reviews I might see it. Damn critics.

DON'T READ REVIEWS UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE.
the reviews either give the movie away and/or trash it. you can't trust them
