It was pretty much expected the Leafs would get Owen Nolan...theyve been trying a while, they better hope his back holds up tho, but this automatically makes them a power in the East if he can go, i only hope the Caps can get someone big up front like a Satan or Chris Gratton, who are both relatively cheap, or another D guy, cause Joel Kwiatkowski isnt cutting it, and JF Fortin is hurt...

I heard about the possibility of Satan to the Isles for Brad Isbister. That's pretty good for the Isles. The Flames keep saying that Iginla is staying put, so I wonder what'll happen with him? I heard that the Isles want to eventually trade Chris Osgood. Maybe that'll get done soon. The Blues can use him.

Was it possible for the Leafs to be more of a dickhead/goon loaded team, yes. I've met Nolan many times out in Sacremento with the likes of Ricci, Shields and other team members, and he ALWAYS was quite the self-absorbed asshole. We would be putting a few back in a small bar with Ricci as he spoke about his dogs and fishing (great guy by the way) when Nolan would walk into the bar with his shiny suit (we were all dressed down) and cocky, loud attitude. He would start shit with everyone, including his friends.

Does this make the team more of a threat, yes. But truth be told, I don't think Belfour will hold up in the playoffs this year and everyone in the league hates the team.

As for Satan, he isn't a true power forward, more of a playmaker with a nice shot. Gratton has the size, but hasn't lived up to his billing even though he has had stretches of good games of late.

Drury, another playmaker, isn't a pure goal scorer. He does however have a knack to come up big when needed most. Yet he had chances to do so because he was on a team that always puts its players in those positions. Still, I believe he would be great help to any team, regardless of the need.

As for Buffalo, don't be surprised if the main players stay put due to NHL dealings to keep them intact. Until they are sold, they need the potential for a buyer to be lured. The decission would be left to the new management.....otherwise the new owner. The best value here would be to go after young talent like Afinigonov (sp) or Connelly. Both show signs of great ability trapped in a shitty system and situation. Plus their price tag is much less, yet possibly not be shopped.

And finally, Osgood will not end up in St. Louis unless the Burke deal falls apart. The Blues have their hearts set on Burke and for good reason, as Burke plays great against some of the Western Conf.'s best (Avs, Wings and Stars) and has a heafty price tag which Gretz would love to dump for a young and upcoming goalie (Johnson). Osgood may be the fall back plan, but the Yotes want a young goalie in return plus more. I highly doubt Snow is the goalie of the future on the Isle, hence DePietro is virtually untouchable. And rightfully so, Snow will fall faster then sleet in the playoffs......even with the strong back checking and work ethic that the Islanders employ on the Isle.

God I'd love to write for Hockey News or Sporting News. Kara Yorio, your job is mine.

ya, satan on the isles... that will be the day hell freezes over... HA! i kill me! get it... satan... hell freezing over... ice hockey?

but in all seriousness, isles already have a big f'n budget. and with the CBA that is happening next year(?) or the year following... will they risk it?

i see the flyers trying to get rid of Cechmaneck because we all know how much bobbie clark loves to get rid of goaltenders. i honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the flyers go after a nice solid defenseman. I cannot think of any off the top of my head that they can work... but if they get a good defenseman... there team would be tight..

isles = SUCK and always will...

rangers = i honestly do not know what glenn sather has up his sleeve... especially with how well they have been playing lately... They just made the kovalev deal... they got all their boys back... I see richter gone at the end of the season though. I feel he may retire or he is gunna get traded.

one thing i do forsee is that Jerome Iginla will not be on the flames. Some other team is gunna offer him the big bucks. As much as calgary claims to have him... who knows what is goin on behind the scenes. Actually, if Colarado can fit him in their budget, that team would be f'n set like hell... with sakic back.. That is just deadly. but i doubt that would happen.

I could see Iginla on the sharks or kings actually... Or possibly Minnesota. Low budget teams with a lot to gain.

Isbisister is at the point where the Islanders really have no choice but to trade him. He has had a poor season, and he has been used as trade bait for the last 2 seasons. Eventually this can get in your head and mess with your game. Isbisister admitted this in an interview the other day. They could get satan but it would require another prospect going along.

Devils are also looking into getting selanne, that would be a big move but You cant expect him to dominate here cuase it is a different system, but he can produce some needed offense.

Rangers- I think the rangers are pretty well set off right now. They really are stacked for next season, and I think the only reasonable move for them would be maybe packaging dvorak and maybe malakov for a quality scorer. I wouldent trade Lundmark. Don't underestimate how important Kovalev is. You have him for the whole season, you win more games.

And toronto is big and goony, but they wont scare me until they get another good winger. And i dont trust belfour any more.

AppleBoy

I'd like to see the Devils get Selanne. I've been hoping for that to happen for a few years now. I'd say Tverdovsky is most likely to go since getting a second opinion on a medical condition without Lou's permission is a no-no. Maybe you could go straight up for Elias since Elias is nothing without the A-Line but you'd be giving up 6 years of youth.

The Devils had their sniper when they had Mogilny. Lou just didn't want to pay him. Mogilny being on Toronto is a waste of talent since Toronto is going nowhere.

I never liked Belfour. He got Chicago to the finals that one year and it was all down hill from there. The Cup he won with Dallas was a team effort. Cold medicine my ass. He just sucks.

why would you get rid of malakov? he is a great defenseman? and what they need are good defensemen. why would you need a "good scorer" when the rangers are already stacked with good scorer's? just some players gotta get back with the game... bure is back and he is a big scorer... lindros would be a big scorer if he played better. the rangers do not need another forward or center

devils: i dont think steinbrenner is willing to dish out all the money for Temu... he is to concerned with his yankee's.

I'll be happy as long as the red wings don't land anyone. They have their eyes on big d fill ins, yet Marchment, Miller and Wesley are gone. They better not get Schneider or Nummi. And the Avs may have helped their on cause last night by giving a point to the Yotes. This way they are only 6 points out of 8th in the West with a game in hand and on hell of a hot goalie in Burke (5-0-1-0 of late since his return). This may lead, and the Gratton deal shows it, to them keeping Burke from the Blues. With Burke St. Louis would be scary. Without him, out in the first or second round. And as good as Burke is, even if the Yotes make the playoffs he can't carry that much weight. Can you say Osgood to the land of the arch? Or better yet, Brathwaite and Johnson, no help for the blues!

The West is tough, yet the Canucks are one true line/three D deep. The Blues don't have true scoring potential in the tight game that is played in the playoffs. Oh yah, that goalie thing too. The Stars continue to win without Turco and Guerin, yet can it continue vs. playoff teams? They seem to think so judging by the moves they have made so far. Plus the injured should be back by round #1, yet how changed and ready? The Oilers just hope to hold on, if they can do that with Nash, Chi and the Yotes nipping at their heals. The ducks are really fiesty and have really impressed, yet not strong enough yet. The Wild however have been playing playoff like hockey all year round. And Lemaire has worked similar magic with young NJ teams in the past. They may cause a comotion much like Vancouver last year, but shouldn't get past the second round.

The power once again lies with the Wings and the Avs. Both are extremely hot, yet can CUJO win a cup? He wen't to a team that can possibly do it without him, and Legace has been very good. So it's the Avs and Wings as my two strongest teams going in to the playoffs. Vancouver has been making strides with a great first line but is just too thin overall and playoff hockey will expose this. Dallas, albeit hurt, continues to win and may return to form and make it the big three again in the West. Remember that they don't have Hitchcock behind the bench anymore, and this may have an impact in the playoffs. But his replacement left LA and look how they have done without him.

Just a few hours left! And I killed on writing this post. Oh yah and..... hey rangers....Cyaaaaaaa!!!!!

The Bergen Record reports the New Jersey Devils are talking to San Jose about forwards Marco Sturm and Mike Ricci, offering Brian Gionta, and either Mike Rupp or Christian Berglund.

as well as...

The New York Post reports New Jersey also is talking to San Jose about a deal, this one involving defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky for forwards Teemu Selanne or Vincent Damphousse.

And a biggie for Isles fans...

The New York Post reports the New York Islanders are talking to Edmonton about defenseman Janne Niinimaa. The Oilers reportedly want Brad Isbister and Dave Scatchard in the deal.

Niinimaa would be awesome for the isles, if you ask me.

This doesn't exactly seal the deal for Rangers to make the playoffs....but the blueshirts welcome Anson Cater to Broadway. They STILL (!!!!!) need a friggin defensive-defenseman, but a power forward of this ilk doesn't hurt.

Now Lindros can clog the front of the net fulltime, and we won't have to worry about what a pussy he is in the corners. Carter is a bigger version of Adam Graves, a true dig-in-the-corners grinder.

Here's the deal:
Anson Carter & Ales Pisa (D) for Radek Dvorak & a bag of pucks named Cory Cross.

All right the Isles send another promising prospect of the power forward varietyRaffi Torres/ Brad Isbister- Remeber Todd Bertuzzi?- off to the West. I remember Ninnima when he was a flyer, he is really quick and a good left handed shot. They need defense, but I hope They didn't pay too much.

Devils?? whats up??? they need offense big time 40 games with two or less goals involved means HELLO LOU we need a sniper/goal scorer! I would Send Oleg T out to San Jose for Teemu Selanne- I think he had 70 goals one year didn't he?

Toronto gets two geezers. The Toronto goon show should be fun to watch in the playoffs though.

Even with Amonte, the Flyers will still choke. They should move ahead of the Devils and get the second seed since the Flyers play the Penguins 4 times between now and the end of the season.

My condolences to Anson Carter.

Housley's still one of the best power play QB's in the NHL, even though hes pretty old but hes still recovering from a broken foot. Gilmour can contribute a ton of leadership and the fans there love him..

Overall id say the winners out of the whole deadline period would have to be Toronto, I would prolly have to pick them to come out of the East(if they dont get pummeled by washington) cause i still dont trust Lalime from Ottawa in the playoffs and Eddie B has done it before

St.Louis really helped themselves with Osgood. Heck he won a stanley cup with the Wings, so he's a good goalie but not a great one, but hes an immense upgrade over Curtis Sanford, Brent Johnson, Fred Brathwaite, Tom Barrasso and whoever else St. Louis trotted out this year...

Priceless comment, but the fact that the Rangers keep making huge trades pisses me off. The deadline needs to be moved back a few more weeks to end the madness. God I hope they can't make up the points and wasted all this money in 2003! "The Rangers....dump your salary and all-stars here, we'll take care of them without that playoff hassle!" I'm becoming a big Boston, Isles and whoever is playing NYR.

As for the Schneider trade, they gave up a lot to land a 37 year old free agent in a year when nobody seems to be losing much (usually just late round draft picks) for their moves. So fuck the wings too! The second most whoring team in the league. As for the Avs, they gave up too much for Bates B. in sending the talent that will be in Vrbata. He has pure scoring potential, at least a 30g/80pts man in the near future once he puts on some weight/muscle. He was playing on the third and fourth line most of the time with the likes of Parker, Messier, Shantz, Keane, Aubin, Hinote and Hahl. Good defensive and antagonistic types, yet not much to work with in a scoring sense. He will be missed and Bates better get back in form.

Boy oh boy, did Lamoriello miss the boat on that one. Anson Carter was exactly what the Devils needed. and for Dvorak, that scrub? I realize Edmonton is strapped for cash and
Carter's gonna be a restricted free agent this summer but Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe should be fired for that trade.

Lou has nine defensemen. I thought for sure he'd be dealing, maybe package one of them up with Mike Jefferson to get some help. I was hoping for Selanne or Palffy but it wasn't meant to be.

yeah, lets add another slow, overpaid and
overrated defenseman in Smehlik. Way to
go, Lou.

Why the F was Lamoriello so asleep at the
wheel yesterday?!? This team NEEDED a Chris
Drury, a Selanne, a Palffy, an Owen Nolan, a Satan...or even a Tony Amonte.

Grant Marshall, Richard Smehlik and Pascal
Rheaume? Those are the answers?

Lou flushed the Devils chances of making a legitimate Stanley Cup run yesterday by standing pat while he watched EVERY other good team in the league improve themselves.

Defense and great goaltending win champinships, true. BUT, horrible Power Play's and streaky inconsistent offenses also lose them.

The first hot goalie the Devs come up against
in April and it's one and done just like last year. Lamoriello needs to quit it with the Nets shit. It's obvious he needs to concentrate on one job and give full focus to his hockey team.

I am what you'd call a frustrated Devils fan, I suppose.
