Far out.
It seems to me that one could form the lens on one side before freezing by molding the bottom of the pan with dirt or something.
It reminds me of a bigass lens I stole from a railroad signal light back in my teens. That rascal was about 10 or 12 inches in diameter and over an inch thick and could ignite a piece of paper in about 2 seconds.
