View Full Version : MTA Fare Hike

Well, it looks like a subway and bus fare will go up to $2.00. And they are going to keep most of the token booths open. My job is now a little bit more secure. I think that a 50 cent fare hike is a little steep. Any thoughts?

We all got problems after 9-11... we'll just have to deal with it. It is steep, but they are left with no other choice.

Hey losers, you can get anywhere you want in the city for two bucks! Christ, quit your belly aching. Try owning a car, first of all, you get to pay $400 a month for four years just to bye it. Then you have to pay $2,000 a year to insure it. Then, gas is two fucking dollars a gallon, lest we forget upkeep. You fucking douche bags in the city can get a monthly metro card for what I am putting in my gas tank in a week and a half. FUCK YOU!
Oh, and I am a MTA employee too. MTA, going your way.
I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker

sorry people, I just couldn't resist:
M. T. A.
Jacqueline Steiner/Bess Hawes
Spoken:
These are the times that try men's souls. In the course of our nation's history, the people of Boston have rallied
bravely whenever the rights of men have been threatened. Today, a new crisis has arisen. The Metropolitan
Transit Authority, better known as the M. T. A., is attempting to levy a burdensome tax on the population in the
form of a subway fare increase. Citizens, hear me out! This could happen to you!
(Eight bar guitar, banjo introduction)
Well, let me tell you of the story of a man named Charley on a tragic and fateful day.
He put ten cents in his pocket, kissed his wife and family, went to ride on the M. T. A.
Chorus:
Well, did he ever return? No, he never returned and his fate is still unknown. (What a pity! Poor ole Charlie.)
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston. He's the man who never returned.
Charlie handed in his dime at the Kendall Square Station and he changed for Jamaica Plain.
When he got there the conductor told him, "One more nickel." Charlie couldn't get off of that train.
(Chorus)
Now, all night long Charlie rides through the station, crying, "What will become of me?!!
How can I afford to see my sister in Chelsea or my cousin in Rocksbury?"
(Chorus)
Charlie's wife goes down to the Sculley Square Station every day at quarter past two,
And through the open window she hands Charlie a sandwich as the train comes rumblin' through.
(Chorus)
Now, you citizens of Boston, don't you think it's a scandal how the people have to pay and pay?
Fight the fare increase! Vote for George O'Brien! Get poor Charlie off the M. T. A.
(Chorus)
He's the man who never returned. He's the man who never returned. Ain't you Charlie?

I haven't heard yet if they are going to come out with a new style of token. I hope they do. Gives my job some purpose.

No one likes price increases. It still seems like a good value for the money, especially given the increased police presence in the subways.
If you want to consider expensive fares, take a look at the LIRR which can cost upwards of $10 to get into the city!

if an extra 25 cents is going to break the bank, you may want to prioritize your finances a bit.
