It's kinda hard to explain this using the written word, but here goes:
I think just aboot everyone is not saying the Pledge of Alligience correctly (not just Rory...but everyone!)
The part where we say "FOR WHICH IT STANDS", is supposed to part of the phrase before it. In a way.... it should be attached to "AND TO THE REPUBLIC". But nobody seems to say it that way. It sort of takes the meaning out of the sentences.
Like Ron said... we learned the pledge because we had to, NOT because the words were meaningful to us.
Look at it in writing.
"I pledge alligence to the flag of the united states of America AND to the republic for which it stands."
That is all one sentence. One thought.
But for some reason we all say
".... of the United States of America.....
and to the republic.....
for which it stands....
One nation...."
This never really bothered me until the boys started discussing the pledge on the show. Now I'm realizing that we've all been saying the pledge in such a way that it has lost it's meaning.
Bad times.
