David Wells is coming out with a book in which he says he was half drunk when he pitched a no hitter. of course, george & the gang have their panties in a bunch after learning this tidbit.

I don't care what they say, Wells is quite the talent if he can do that.

Doc Ellis said he pitched a no-hitter while tripping on acid back in 1970.

They should bring those bullpen carts back. Maybe he can get hammered and run over Jeter.

For his sake I hope it is true, 'cause it might get his ass in a lot of trouble with the boss. I hope it's worth it in the end just to sell a couple more books...he is truly a stupid man, talented, but terminally stupid.

Hey, I just looked up "functioning alcoholic" in the dictionary, and lo and behold, there was a picture of David Wells.

I find it amusing that Wells is being accused of giving the Yankees a bad name with this story, so with that logic you could now say that Mickey Mantle was the biggest bum they ever had............didn't he play most every game hung over ??

I've pitched six perfect games when drunk; though I was playing wiffle ball and against my legally blind brother. Still, booze rules!

Not everyone knows this, but David Wells has a slight weight problem.

Joe Pepitone...now he was the Pride of the Yankees. Banging chicks under the stands during the game. Nice.

And then Johnny Fontane comes along with his olive-oil voice, and guinea charm.

You would think Steinbrenner would buy Wells a case of Jack so's every game of his would be perfect ones.

hell's yeah. get everyone on that team hammered, if that's the performance you're going to get...have every major leaguer on the team drinking the game away. i think we just found the secret for the Cubs finally capturing the pennant.

Wells is some kinda stupid for putting that book out. the public can stomach the book and him pitching through the season...but the higher ups in the offices, no friggin way. you are dealing with some real old purists for the game of baseball. he's definately out of the yankees this season, i'm almost 100% on that.
he was probably drunk when he made the book deal, but putting that book out now, while he's a major league pitcher, right at the start of a season, that is going to sell major binding. my only guess at Wells is either he wants book sales, and the money and doesn't care about getting thrown out, or he thinks the popularity for him and the book in the big city will be enough for the office brass to not be able to get rid of him.

David Wells is one pitcher I enjoy watching. I think it has alot to do with his bigtime play in the playoffs, when it really counts.

He won me a 100 bucks last year. My co-worker said he wouldn't be in the top 3 for wins, on the Yankee pitching staff. I had a feeling he'd be neck and neck with Clemons due to his competetive nature, turns out he was #1 in wins...

But, I think his best days are behind him and 12-15 wins will probably be tops...

It's probably bullshit. I'm sure his Publisher wanted to "stir some shit" and told Wells to "spice things up" for publicity. Keyshawn did this in his book but he did not backpeddle as much as Wells is doing.
I remember Bubba Smith said in his book that the Joe Namath led Jets Superbowl win was fixed. These people will say anything to get press. As for Wells, my guess is that he will get reprimanded and go on to have a decent season. Sober.

If anyone read the Daily News yesterday, Mike Lupica had an article calling Wells a liar. Wells said he was hung over from the Saturday Night Live casting party and than pitched the next day with a major hangover. Lupica said that the party was actually 8 days earlier.
