I've eaten in about 50 diners in the NJ/PA area, some are downright recchid and others are fantastic. For some odd reason I would like to know what are our favourite diners no matter where you live.
Mine would have to be the Secaucus Metro Diner and Willie Diner in Bloomfield.

I'm partial to the Golden Touch on Route 10 in East Hanover (one of my friends swears their ice cream sundaes ward off hangovers) & the Tick-Tock (in Clifton?).

I obviously love my hometown diner, so the Montville Diner does me well. But I also love this diner in Nanuet, NY. I'm not sure of the name, but I think it's a clever one, like the Nanuet Diner or something.

I absolutely love a good diner and even the occasional greasy sppon late at night. Sometimes it is not just the diner but the friends that you are with that make the experience.
Growing up in PA, I would have to say that the Plain & Fancy on Rte 309 in Quakertown was the best. I say was because they got this HORRID remodel the other year and the place now resembles a space ship. I tis just not the same there anymore but, I still go there. There was also the City View diner in Allentown on Rte 145 that was just awesome. Still had the old school style from the 50's and GREAT food.
Since moving over this way, I have been looking for a good diner to hang out at at night because they are great places to sketch. I am always down for that 2 AM cup of coffee.

I worked with a moving company in Coopersburgh this summer & we ate at the Plain & Fancy in Quakertown all the time. You're right on both subjects, the food is quite good & the redesign is pretty odd looking.

The Coop as we called in in Coopersburg was prettty damn good too. The benches in there had some great acoustics as this one late night when it was packed my one friend just farted so incredibly load it sounded as if there was a car accident outside. BY FAR one of the funniest things I have ever been involved with. The waitress had to come over and ask him if he was ok and we had a hard time with that cause we were laughing so hard.

I like Vicki's Diner in Westfield, NJ and Mastori's down where route 130 meats 206. Great french toast and the cheesebread is mouth-watering.

Pompton Queen Diner on 23 is damn good. About 3 miles north on 23 is Mac's which has good eats too - no drinks tho. Then there's the Tick Tock on Rt. 3 good after a night in the city.

Had a lot of good memories at the 6 Brothers Diner on 46 in Montclair.
Bendix Diner on 46 - classic NJ Diner...good disco fries.
I had no complaints about the Tick Tock on 3.
The IHOP on Rt 3 is a fav of mine because of the people I have been there with.
The Nevada diner in Bloomfield isn't a favorite of mine, but there is this older waitress who always sits down with you and tells you stories.
But I have to say the Sussex Queen is my favorite on Rt 23 in Sussex. My step-mom works there and I always get more than I should, and she always gives me the freebie.

before 1988 - Dekay's Diner on Newark Ave in Jersey City. Used to stop there with my Dad after we both worked 3rd Shift at the Colgate Plant...A scene from a Danny Devito and Joe Piscopo movie(Good Guys)? was shot there...
1988-1994 - REO Diner in Woodbridge...They would give you them free garlic pickles for lunch or dinner....
1994-2003 - Golden Bell Diner in Freehold...good food but it bugs me when they serve butter in those little containers, with breakfast. I have no nails and have a tough time opening them little packets. Much prefer a nice scoop of butter in a small cup. By the time i open them packets and butter my pancakes or french toast, my eggs get cold...

In Brooklyn, The New Floridian is one of those modern glass and steel places but the food is great after those long nights out. I also ate at the Stateline on Route 17. It is pretty good as well.
