...how at the end of every interview on a talk show the host whispers in the guest's ear, "that was great!"?

This annoys me.

Can't they wait for the show to cut to commercial before they start kissing ass?

Or, are we supposed to hear them say this, thus then, subconsciously convincing ourselves that, yes, that interview was, indeed, great?

it seems to me that the host is nervous about being "on camera" and not talking, kind of like "dead camera" time. So he leans over and whispers sweet nothings...

I actually thought the host just mumbles something or says nothing at all and just moves his lips so he he doesn't have to give dead stare into the camera...

Kind of like the Newscasters, sometimes the camera stays on them for several seconds between when they stop talking and a commercial break. Man do they look like they start to get uncomfortable. Usually they look down and start shuffling their papers...

Those few moments seem like a lifetime for both the Host and the Guest and they don't want it to seem as though they were only talking because they HAD to, so they carry on with some inane conversation for a little while.

Some hosts actually arrange to have their make-up artist come on set to "touch up" their make-up for the entire break just so they won't have to actually converse with the guest off-camera.

the best is when the guest gets up to leave like right afterward and the host is like "no you can stay, have a seat" and the guest has that look on their face like "no, i really want to go now!"
