Steak-Umm.. AWFUL...

Last night I went to a college hangout where "grease truck sandwiches" are the speciality of the house.

I saw a cheesesteak variant that I wanted, so I ordered it.

It was made with STEAK-UMM.

UGH, AWFUL. Worst sandwich ever. Working in Philly and being exposed to some of the greatest hoagies and cheesesteaks ever made me realize that processed beef just doesn't cut it anymore.

And bacon would not have made it better, no matter what you say.

Lesson: Always have a tube of harissa for just such situations. Harissa makes any meat dish taste gooood.

always a MAJOR disappointment to find your cheesesteak made with Steak-Umm's...

And not sure when restaurants started doing this but they chop their steak up into a bunch of small pieces... I much prefer a nice 1/8 inch thick, solid piece of steak with a bit of fat on it...

it also seemed that Deli counters in major food stores started selling the chopped up/sawdust type deli meats at the same time they started chopping up the steaks...What the F?

toocute i thought you were smart. But since you don't know what a steakum is I guess i was wrong.

It is a thinly sliced piece of meat, I'm not sure what exactly it is but it's greasy. that is sold at grocery stores across this great land. Often in 10 or 20 packs. each peice is seperated by waxpaper. they are found in the frozen food section, look for them.

they are designed to make easy cheezesteaks. They are the single greasiest cut of meat ever.

I normally don't eat them, but they are excellent for winter camping, they stick to you, and with all the meat grease and cheese you will have enough insulation to make it through a blizzard.

Man Steak-ums were so good when I was a kid. I would make about 7 slices in the toaster oven and add some cheese on a nice sesame roll mmm.

Now, I think they are the nastiest slice of meat I have ever eaten. I tryed to cook them on the Forman grill, but it came out like 6 pieces of tastles beef sheets.

How come things get better or worse as you get older. I can eat things now I never would have put on my plate when I was younger. At the same time I used to eat foods that would now make me vomit.

Very strange.

So true, the sweets and cake I would eat as a kid would be way to much for me now and when the hell did the healthy cereal start to tast good?
