The day before Christmas Eve, we got the call that my husband's reserve unit would be going to Kuwait around 1/20. that day came and went with my husband still safe at home. Since then it's been an ever changing list of places and dates and with every delay and change came the hope that maybe this day would never come. Well, 3:30 Thursday morning I dropped him off at his reserve center in the Bronx and this morning he called me to tell me he'd arrived and was ok. He's not in Kuwait, thankfully, but I'm not sure if it's ok for me to say where he is. All I can say is he's not here and I feel like part of me has been amputated. I'm trying to stay strong for my kids. I brought home pizza and made root beer floats and we cuddled on the couch and laughed at America's Funniest Home Videos and itwas ok for awhile, but now they're asleep and it's so quiet. I just finished my third amaretto and orange juice and I just wish he were here. I'm so scared for him, but I still support the need for him to go. I'm sorry for taking up so much space. I'm just tipsy, sad and scared.

They say the toughest job in the military is being a military spouse. Just remember when he gets back you'll want to spend quality time together and he'll want to sleep all the time.....
There should be no reason you cant say where he is.....where is he?

Mad props to Fluff for the sig and C.O.soup for hosting!

I'm so sorry for you. I wish the best for him. No one should ever be in this situation. Be strong, and he'll be home before you know it.

Christy-thanks so much. You're the sweetest. And you're probably right Johneewadd, any bad guys who are interested probably already know who's where. He's in Crete, for now. The good part is he is able to call home and I just found an email from him on my computer, which made me feel a little better. He's a navy reservist in the MIUW-Mobile Inshore Underwater Warfare unit. I'm so proud of him and all the other soldiers and I hope they all come home soon.

Thank you SoccerMom, and please thank your husband for me. People these days don't seem to understand that in order to speak as freely as we are right now, we have to thank every veteran of our armed forces and their families. Our thoughts are with you, and your husband will undoubtedly return home to you in one piece and a hero.

The only thing I do know, is that I don't know....

Soccermom,
My prayers go out to you and your husband. I know full well what you are going through. My family went through exactly the same thing when my brother and I were sent overseas many moons ago. But all turned out fine since both of us came home.
Again, this will be over one day and all will be fine!

I don't know what his MOS is, but there isn't going to be much of a naval conflict.
If he's a support guy, as opposed to say a pilot in the Navy, then he most likely won't be under any fire.

Ooops....
I missed that.
I thought he was just a radar guy or something.

Most impressive -- you should be proud of him.

Those folks play an underrated but very important role in AT/FP (Anti Terrorism/Force Protection). They make sure that ships are protected from asymmetric littoral threats such as mines and small boat attacks. They make sure there are no "USS COLE-type" attacks.

Liquid Courage, I know you didn't mean any disrespect , but not all Navy operations take place on a ship. SEALs, Sea Bees and MIUW and I'm sure probably others as well conduct land based operations. These soldiers don't wear the navy white- they wear the BDUs (cammies). My husband is the 60 gunner in his unit and AJ is right on the money as far as where he is and what he's doing. As far as being safer on a ship, the sailors who survived the attack on the USS Cole might not agree with you and as to this not being a naval operation, with 5 battle groups comprised of 50 warships I'd say the navy is making a substantial contribution as is every other branch including our national guard and coast guard who don't get nearly enough recognition for their efforts.
I want to thank you all so much for your support. I think you guys are all some of the coolest people I've never met. Maybe one day when this is all over that will change-by then I'll need a night out! Until then, just know your kind thoughts have really helped to prop me up and I am very grateful.
