After this Rhode Island disaster late last night I got to thinking how dangerous clubs and bars are. This place was small...it doesnt look like more then 50 feet from the stage to the front door yet many people didnt get out. I saw the ramones play at Coney Island High in the Village a few years ago. As You enter from the street you have to walk up a flight of stairs to the second story then walk to the front of the building and walk back down a filght of stairs. then the stage was on the opposite side from the stairs. If anything had been set on fire, no way in hell I was getting out. Most of these places are death traps if you think about it.....its not like theres super wide doors, only one person can fit through at a time and if youre in the back of that line choking on smoke, youre gonna start running and pushing.

My friends look out for me like family

The whole story made me think of the old 9:30 club in DC. If there was ever a major fire, you'd be in trouble, especially if you were down in the basement.

I went to a place the other night and they have a huge glass wall, if shit happened I'd break that sucker down.

I think Unhallowed has only played Deathtraps! Well, se've played our share. Most Death Metal shows go down in these shitty clubs.
I got REAL scared when I heard about Rhode Island because we have a bunch o fans up there and play there pretty regularly. I'm not in close contact with the fans but I hope none of them were in there. The kind of young crowd that we draw probably isn't a fan of Graet White anyway.
We played a place in Maryland called Hal Daddys. 2 level place with a front door and a back entrance that led onto the "stage" looking thing. Fucking terrible. There was standing water behind the stage from the outside. You had to walk on a mysterious piece of plywood just to get in. Wonder what it was covering.
The bottom line is it's like everything else. No one pays attention to things until AFTER something goes wrong. Now maybe the country will try to make sure we're safe in these shady bars and clubs.
A real concern I have now is that a lot of small clubs that Metal is played at will probably disappear now. Rather than come up to new codes, they'll just close and there will only be larger places putting on shows. This will kill a lot of small Death Metal shows.
I know it's better to be safe than play a club that could kill, but when these places close there's usually never another that opens. They disappear and aren't replaces.

With all due respect to those that were hurt, or died at the show...why the hell were they there? I mean...(in my best Seinfeld voice)who are these people that go to see Great White?

It cost $17 to get into that bar too see them that night. I doubt people went just for the drinks.

i think the worse one i've been too was the pyrimid club. i haven't been there in awhile but it maybe better now. when i was there there was standing water on the floors and when the bathroom backed up it spilled onto the dance floor and stage. it was gross and unsafe. but it may be better now.

So YOU tell us an appropriate band to die in front of.
You can't just add "with all due respect" to a statement like that and expect it to give the respect it deserves.
You are a tool
