Just saw this tonite. Has anyone else?
It's pretty interesting, and usual. I liked it,
but I have a question.

I love that movie, it had to be one of the best movies from last year. The more I watch it, the more the story unravels itself to me. There were things I didn't catch the first time, that now I get.

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone with my question....so i'll put a spoiler alert below...

*********SPOILER ALERT**********

In the end you see the date is now earlier, and he's now in the room when the part of the plane hits the house. Did he purposely go back in time to stop everything that happened after that and to prevent the girls death, and to save the girl from ever even meeting him?
That's what I'm taking from it, but I just want to be sure if I'm right about that.

Exactly. Did you get the part when the engine that fell on his room was actually from the plane that the mother and his sister were traveling on and that it traveled back in time. Maybe I'm a little slow, but I didn't get that the first time. Its a bit of a crazy concept but I really love that movie.

If you watch the movie with the director's commentary track, he basically walks you through the entire movie. A lot of parts that seem really strange make a little bit more sense after hearing the director talk about it.

i love donnie darko, the one thing i dont get is why frank came in the first place, i guess it was some riff in time, but a very cool movie. good acting, good directing. a horror film, chrichton-esque sci-fi, and a period piece all in one. great stuff

Great movie!
I rented it as soon as it was released, cuz Fangoria magazine gave it killer reviews.
I highly recommend it to anybody.

I also dug that song "Sad World" near the end. the lyrics are stuck in my head...

"It's kinda funny, kinda sad...how the dreams I had of dying are the best I ever had."

xoxoxoxo,

Donnie Darko Sequel Starts Filming May 18
Source: Screen Daily May 9, 2008

Screen Daily reports that UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus will be launching sales in Cannes for S. Darko, billed as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. Fox has already taken North American rights for the $10 million-budgeted film.

Chris Fisher, who previously made Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, will direct.

Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow, Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2: The Streets) and Justin Chatwin (Dragonball).

The story picks up seven years after the first film when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage.

loved DD. and the advice i got, that i'll pass on, is dont try to understand everything, just watch and enjoy. :)

imo, if the filmmakers want you to understand everything at first glance, they'll make it easy. right?

I agree, although I did go to wikipedia after watching the movie to get an explanation. I really like Donnie Darko a lot as well, but I have real reservations about a sequal, especially if the writer and director of the original isn't involved.

Sometimes, I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

I am interested in a sequel, although the casting looks like it could be for a High School Musical film. I don't know how they could do it with a new writer.

I find the DD fan wikipedia/web presence fascinating- people really want to figure this flick out!

Between S. Darko and All Saints Day: Boondock Saints 2, I chose the Saints.

The directors cut of Donnie Darko has lots of added stuff about the story that totally makes sense if you watch it after seeing the original a few times. The beauty of Donnie Darko is you not only CAN watch it multiple times, it gets better each time.

im not going to get excited about this for many reasons, but i will see it and i hope that somehow it is good. but it just doesnt seem like a movie that lends itself to a sequel, even under the best of circumstances.

(obviously i loved the first one hehe)

I think I saw the Director's Cut of Donnie Darko, but I enjoyed the movie alot, but only watched it the one time. If Richard Kelly isn't part of it, I don't have much faith in it.

Non-shocker: Dubious-looking Donnie Darko sequel heading directly to DVD (http://www.avclub.com/articles/nonshocker-dubiouslooking-donnie-darko-sequel-head,23532/)

S. Darko the tangentially related sequel to Richard Kelly's cult hit Donnie Darko is slated for an April 28th premiere on DVD and Blu-Ray, according to High-Def Digest. Directed by Chris Fisher (Who? Good question!) the sequel shared little with the original beyond the presence of Daveigh Chase as Donnie's younger sister Samantha. (Presumably the "S" of the title.)
