Protests or European pressure?
I don't think the protests are doing shit. People point to the Vietnam war protests as an example of how the voice of the people can be heard. Bullshit. The war lasted from 1962(and we had forces there before that, that's just the official start date) to 1975. The war lasted 13 years when the average wartime periods in US history lasted 4 years. So did protests end that, or were we just done? If the war had ended in the mid-late 60's then maybe you could have said it worked. I don't know, I just feel that war protests don't work. the government's going to do what it's going to do anyway.
I think external pressure will do more to avert the war than anything else.

Personally, i think the only thing that will stop war is what the US has been saying from the start. It's time for Iraq to come clean and prove that their WMD's are destroyed or accounted for.
That or Saddam being Exiled or Assainated by his own people.
Which wont happen.
I think most the protesters are ill informed, and I honestly do think that the US is talking the proper steps to make sure this is done properly, with war as a last result.
And where were the protesters against Saddam? I mean the guy has killed many of his own people, it's his deception of the past 12 years that is provoking this, where are the protests against him?
The guy is supposedly planning on starving his own people to slow down our troops. Is this someone that protests should protect?
the US cannot afford at this time for the weapons that Iraq was developing to be unaccounted for. They are bad enough in Saddam's hands, and dont think for one minute that he wouldn't sell them to the highest bidder, if he hasn't done so already.
If they are destroyed, where is the proof? Why, the 3 card monte game?
History shows us that a swift and decisive war, with a specific goal, would lead to far less casualties than a prolonged "Vietnam" type of Police Action, with no real mandate for being there.
If we put foot to ass 10 years ago when the first examples of this problem happened, we wouldn't have had any of this happen. Too many people seem to think that these problems just materialized under Dubya's watch, when in reality, most of these problems could have been squashed during the Clinton years.
Bottom line in my opinion, If we are at war, no matter what your feelings about it, lets support out troops....I think it's a disgrace how Vietnam Vets were treated, and i think that in the end we are all americans...

The Vietnam protests really didn't kick into full gear until the last couple years of the 60's.
Protests don't "work" like you think they work. Nobody's expecting the people in charge to suddenly smack their heads and go, "oh, so THAT'S what I should do!" It's simply a way to to demonstrate in public how large and/or vocal a particular segment of the population is.

The war is a go...i highly doubt the US is stopping at this point. No matter what any other nation or protestor does.

you have to change the thinking of those whowould like to do us harm.... the fundamentalists. so to do this you're going to have to start by tearing down all the churches in the world, and replace them with rollercoasters. because obviously these people have forgotten how to have a good time. (eating sand will do that to you) then you have change their opinion towards the US. for this i propose we drug the entire middle east. rain down weapons grade ecstasy, and dank nuggets. give them all the things that make life great. give them porn, give them comedy......just make them stop acting assholes, cause i dont like the idea that people want to kill me. wait till i do something to you ... then you can want to kill me. they only hate us because we're cooler than them anyway

So did protests end that, or were we just done?
It's my opinion that the protests actually extended the Viet Nam war. It paralized the Johnson adminstration; they took away the running of the war from the generals and made all decisions (bombings, etc) based on political considerations. It also dragged out the war because Johnson didn't want it to seem like the protesters were suceeding and he was backing down.
As to Iraq, I think the only thing that will avert war is if Sadam goes into exile in France or somewhere else. Then free elections could be held.
