The playoff picture is getting clearer, especially the true contenders. So, who do you think will lift the cup and explain why! Anyone who says the Rangers should be put on an extended vacation with Thrasher fans.

As an Avs fan I have some hope with their play of late. Also they have a deep defensive core with the likes of Foote, Blake, DeVries, Skoula and Morris. Add to this the offensive punch of Forsberg, Hedjuk, Tanguay, Reinprect, Vrbata, and the soon to return Sakic.....things continue to swing in the right direction. Oh yah, the money goaltender of all-time, simply Roy.

Yet, until anyone can crack them seriously I have to say Dallas looks tough. Turco is by far the best goalie this year with Marty in NJ running in second.

Vancouver and Ottawa have little depth, especially the lack of defense on the Canucks. One may get by during the regular season, but the playoffs expose all weaknesses. Minnesota's play warrants more hope for a playoff run than the former two.

My heart want's to say Calgary will turn it around, but I know they won't.

I think that vancover will win the tournament. They have one of the strongest teams I've seen in a while.

In conclusion go Flames turn this baby around.

Terror just won an extended vacation with John Rocker and other Thrasher fans. One can dream can't they. Rangers....ha! You would be closer if you chose the Whale, Jets or Nordiques!
Even if the Seals made the playoffs this year I'd be less surprised.

My favorite showdown would be Caps vs. Red Wings and kick their ass, like they have always wanted to after '98.

But I will have to think with reason and say...Ottawa for East, Dallas for West.

If Edmonton can stay out of Dallas for just one year...I believe in they can make it.

Is everyone just posting for their favorite team to win, like I am?

Out West, I'd like to see Vancouver or St. Louis in the Finals but you know Dallas, Colorado and Detroit will have something to say about it.
In the East, Ottawa is the best team but they can be beaten. If the Devils can't get the job done, then I'd like to see Ottawa, Boston or the Isles in the Finals.
Prediction: Ottawa vs. Dallas in the Finals. Stars hoist the Cup again.

i would love the Islanders to win it all, but i just don't see that happening. I'll go with Devils/Canucks in the finals.

If it can't be the Rangers, my money is on the Minnesota North Stars.

I think Vancouver actually has a solid shot this year, if they can find somehow to get around ROy-forsberg and sakic. But then there is dallas, and they are good when Turco is healthy. From the east if they devils get some firepower I think them and ottawa will be the favorites. But I think the islanders may turn some heads cause they may win some playoff games.

So you say the Dallas Stars huh?

As for the likes the isle, they certainly are a better team with the likes of Peca. The problem is that their "stars" aren't playing like it. Yashin has only a few more goals than Blake and Scatchard for Christ's sake. They would make out great if they can manage a trade for some offensive punch by dealing Osgood since Snow seems to be playing better at a much lower price tag. They need to pick up either Drury, Ignila, Nolan, or someone in their mold.

As for Edmonton, they have a long way to go. If they don't make the playoffs this year, look for a team shake-up in the offseason. Salo may look for a new team whenever his contract is up. And as it turns out his contract ends right when Roy is expected to retire. Salo's best friend.....Peter Forsberg. Wishful thinking on my part I guess, but Salo plays great with the likes of limited D. Brewer is the only one who impresses me, being that he is the only solid lefty d to play on the right side.
