Guess which team I like...
So Cassidy's first year has had a typical capitals slow start, pick up in january. I was hoping a new coach would change that, but I guess you cant teach an old dog new tricks.
With a little more than a month till playoffs and the trade deadline, itll be interesting to see who we grab for the playoffs, assuming we hold off the Lightning and win the Southeast. Big Bondra fan? Be afraid, he hasnt lived upto his past numbers and could be on the trading blocks.
Im hoping that the caps will bring up Maxime Oullet to come play a few NHL games. The kid is simply an amazing goalie and is ripping the AHL apart. Expect him to be Charpie's back-up when Kolzig retires in the near future. Another player who id like to see in the NHL more, Brian Sutherby. Guy wins MVP in Young-Stars game and they just send him to Portland, what are you thinking McPhee.!!!!
Whats to happen with Nolan Yonkman, JF Fortin, Rick Berry and other caps D-men. Well if your wondering why Jason Doig is getting to play more, its cause Brendan Witt is not a fighter anymore, and Doig is fucking huge. Him and Peat will be kicking ass in the playoffs, protecting our stars. As for Yonkman and Fortin, they will most likely finish out the season on the Scratch list or on the Pirates. Kwiatkawski is OK, but he wont be up there long. Expect players like Rick Berry to take his place, mainly cause Berry is huge.
And as far as our acquisitions for the year, Nylander and Grier were the best things to happen to the caps since getting Jagr. Langs good and all, but hes not putting up the numbers he had in Pittsburg. Nylander will lead the team in assists, and will be in Washington for many more years.
Now rip me apart.

well..hes a streaky player...most of his goals come in bunches. but i dont know who would want him being that hes pretty old and he is streaky. if they were to deal him i would assume out west.
Caps need D. The PK still stinks for some reason, and i think they need another good defensive D-man. They cant go on winning every other game...need to get more consistent
anywho...the real most important guy on the team has got to be Kolzig...no question. if hes out for any significant length of time..forget about it. I think cause the race will go right down to the end, i dont think youll see Ouellet very much, only if the caps are already in the playoffs. Man did we rip off the Flyers on that one!!!
THOUGHT O' THE MOMENT:
Whats with JF Fortin and Rick Berry being scratched EVERY FREAKIN GAME? Are Joel Kwiatkowski and Jason Doig that much better?

Caps will definetly hold the 3rd spot in the Confernence because of their leadership in the Southeast. That means most likley they will be playing Bruins in the playoffs. Caps have a very evened out team. Speed/puck handling/intensity/and smart play have all contributed this season. Caps are playing with their rookies a lot -testing them out and such. Its good that they are finally doing it rather than just letting talent waste away in Portland. I still don't like McPhee, he has made some bogus trades and aren't using chances for great prospects whether they are free agents (awhile ago-Peca and Kasperitis) or if they are playing AHL (Yonkman and Suttherby). Caps are nowhere near as agressive as they were when they won the Eastern Conference. There 4th line was the recking line- Simon, Hunter, Berube- and thats the offense! They were a very tough and physical team. I dont know what has droven them to stop checking so much. Is it the leadership of Jagar's finess taking over? I cant answer that. Caps will and always be an underrated team. Jagar has put them in the spotlight, but tons of the players aren't talked about...AND SHOULD BE! Caps have always been a solid team, and we will have to wait to see what the fate has in hand for the postseason.

Speaking of Bogus Trades. Zednik and Bulis for Linden and Zubrus.
Zuby is a good young player, with size and speed, but hes not a big scorer now. Give him like 3 years to develop and emulate Jagr. (The two like to deke and shot, and Zuby does lots of dekeing.)
We shoulda kept Zednik.
Are Kwiatkowski and Doig better? Well not necessarily, but the caps lack size to protect their star talent. Hence why we have Doig, the guy is a monster and doesnt mind dropping the gloves. Kwiatkowski im not sure of, I'd rather see a young guy like Fortin out there, but whatever Cassidy is doing, its working.
The PK isnt awful, its just no consistent. The caps can kill 5 min majors no sweat, and let up a 2 min minor in seconds. Plus our PP just finally got in gear. Maybe the PK will follow.
As for Oullet, if we secure the spot, hell play some of the last games. But if we are still fighting in March, he wont see the NHL till next year maybe.
And Bondra, hes a streaker, but hes a power play scorer. And the way the power play is set up, bondra isnt on the right side (his best side), Jagr is. Cassidy is building the team around Jagr, but forgetting about Gonchar and Bondra who are more capable to score from the point on the power play. Many a power play has fluttered out cause Jagr had to throw a deke and 3 passes in. Bondra is probable to be traded (he costs alot) and hes not being used how he should. Expect to see OTHER teams asking for him. And if McPhee is a moron, hell put him up. Id hate to see Bonzai go though.

What got me puzzled was after that crazy trade...
1) Zednik and Bulis team up with Juneau and kill on Montreal
2) McPhee traded Linded who was doing good, at the beginning of the season saying "he wasn't showing me much" yet we were still holding onto Simon at the time, which was doing NOTHING!
McPhee throws out his checkbook then doesn't use any of his purchase more than half the time.

I have no idea why the Bruins are playing so badly, they have three good lines, the MVP (Thornton) and big strong defenseman.
Injuries are really killing them and they should have gotten somebody better than Jeff Hackett.
p.s. Gvac's gonna be pissed you didn't mention the Wings in the topic. :)

the Islanders will make the playoffs, but won't advance too far, if at all. that's my prediction.

Isles, eh, i think they are gonna fall in the first round again. As for the caps, I fear for thier playoff spot after the pathetic loss to Toronto.

Caps/Islanders/Rangers/Bruins - getting their asses kicked by the Devils.
Now having said that, watch the Bruins shut them out tonight.

who available was better? their real problems were losing McLaren and the fact Lapointe has about 20 points...

Bruins have at least four better defenseman than McLaren. Him not playing wasn't an issue.
Lapointe is a huge letdown though.
