I did a search and couldn't find a thread. Since I listen to the show a day later (NYer), I didn't get to this until now.
My favorite movie based on a comic is a little bit off the norm of what people think is a comic flick. GHOST WORLD is one of my favorite movies period, comic or not.

yeah, I'd have to go with Batman. I enjoyed Superman, but that's because I was 5 at the time. Looking back, Superman I was a horrible adaptation of the comic.

"Road To Perdition" was almost dead on...except for adding Jude Law's character.
"Men In Black" was actually based on a comic book, and the first one was pretty decent...
"Dick Tracy" still cracks me up. Pacino is drop-dead hilarious in that one...

When are they gonna make a Silver Surfer movie?
they're not planning one. there was talk of one, but there would probably be too much CGI.

Batman captured the grittiness of the city and the duality of the character beautifully.

I loved the original Keaton Batman until the parade sequence, then the semi-realistic world they spent the last 2 hours building degrades into Nightmare Before Christmas territory with the cheezy balloons.
For me Spider-man is the ultimate "super-hero" movie.
As for other non-superhero comic movies, The Crow was great, as was Blade.
I'm digging Marvel's streak so far with Blade, X-men, Blade II, Spidey, DD and with X2 and Hulk just around the corner, it looks like they finally got the formula right.
I'm desperately awaiting someone to get the balls enough to do a "Preacher" movie.

Would Conan The Barbarian count? He's been a comic series, a serial (in magazines) , a novel series and been in one of the greatest fantasy movies ever! I know the short stories and novels came first, but the comic has been around for a long time.

Cool, a topic a can actually post on without speaking out of my ass.
Of the latest crop of comic book movies, I'd have to say X-Men was the best, because they actually held back. Sure, you could strip mine thirty years of story and character development and blow it on one ninety minute wad of k00l (see: Daredevil), but it's better if you start small and leave something for the sequal.
Spidey was fun, but ultimately traded character development for day-glo cool (with a 'c', as opposed to a 'k'.) Daredevil has the same flaw tenfold (I've found I'm in the minority thinking DD was a steaming pile of shit.)
Tim Burton's first Batman is also great. For pure "screw the source, we're making a good movie," nothing beats the slay-fest that is Blade. Never has so much been made from so little. :)

Best comic book movie thus far has been xmen although magneto could have been a little less decrepid, and I also agree with the guy who said that they should do a preacher movie...that would be the shit.

Damn was the first Crow excellent. That first time I
saw it - I was glued...I love that line when the heroin
guy is about to be shot up fifty million times by Eric, he
whispers "You're wasting it."
Blade. Blade good.
Batman. Excellent movie at that moment in time.
