There is an obvious difference between singing, writing or portraying a certain lifestyle. But when you live it as well, it says alot. And as for things like second chances, redemption and such...that is all fine and I believe in them....but I don't ever recall Biggie, 2Pac making some dramatic turn around. They were criminals who could rap, got out of the ghetto to do so, and contiuned in the lifestyle after they left. I hold no pity for such people nor should anyone else. Maybe you find it ok for people who shoot, kill, rob, steal amongst other things...and because they make good music...that makes them a good person? But I find it sad that people hold these types up for some sort of glory or fame.
i'm just taking a wild guess here but i would guess you're a white person who grew up in some suburban middle class area. even if i'm wrong you probably didn't grow up in a place like bed sty brooklyn.
biggie sold drugs and hung with thugs because that's all he knew. we have the privilege of being able to have enough in our lives that we can find time to post meaningless shit on a messageboard, he grew up in a neighborhood where if you made the wrong move you were killed. he grew up that way because it was all that he knew, but when he realized he had a talent for rapping (not just a talent, he's the best rapper of all time), he got out of the drug game so he could make something of himself, and he did.
and yeah he rapped about how he used to rob and steal and hustle, but he says that was just the game he knew and now he doesn't have to do it anymore. he didn't live that way because he chose too, he lived that way because he had too.
the whole time the east/west coast war between him and tupac was going on and tupac was writing songs about biggie sucking and how he fucked biggies wife, biggie did nothing in retaliation. tupac was killed because he was a blood, and it was gang related.
biggie got killed because suge knight knew that without tupac that west coast couldn't stand a chance against bad boy records, they didn't really stand a chance with him anyway because biggie is the best. he didn't become the best by threatening others or cheating his way to the top, he became the best by using a talent he was given.
biggie got a second chance at life and he was using it for good. he did his best to make sure all his friends from the ghetoo (junior mafia) got out as well, because he knows the ghetto only brings death and he wishes that on no one.
puffy didn't kill biggie, like someone said he would have made a ton more money if he was alive, adn i genuinally believe they were friends.
but to say biggie got what he deserved, a man who did his best to get out of a bad situation, only to be killed out of jealousy, is wrong.
i understand where you're coming from, if you don't know his story it's easy to just generalize from what you hear in his songs or think you know, but biggie was straight up the money, he truly was the greatest rapper of all time.
