Steinbrenner Tells Jeter to "get more focused"

What do you think of Mr. Steinbrenner's remarks to Jeter that he feels he (Jeter) is not ready to be the team's captain because of Jeter's partying and that he didn't feel Jeter was focused enough?

Not only is Steinbrenner starting to resemble the guy who kept the team completely unfocused and paranoid for 15 years, his accusations are misplased, misdirected, and misinformed....

He said nothing about Wells's 3am diner fight, yet Jeter "parties too late?" Steinbrenner's doing what he always did, say something about the star of the team, say something that'll get noticed...

If he wants to Criticize Jeter, to light a fire under him, he's doing it the wrong way... don't criticize his lifestyle, criticize his performance. If Steinbrenner had said "I guess now that Jeter's older, he's settled into being a .300 hitter," and watch Jeter prove him wrong this season...

Stienbrenner is spending more than anyone, and making waves about it, let's not interfere with the team and create a $150 Million money pit for another 15-20 years, huh?

George Steinbrenner looks like Elizabeth Taylor and shouldn't question Jeter's work ethic. And he looks like Queen Elizabeth, too. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Derek Jeter gives 100% and that George Steinbrenner reminds of wealthy old women.

i think he just doesnt have anything better to do. Jeter has been a team leader since day 1. He gives back to the community and gives his all in each game. He doesn't create drama or get himself into trouble off the field when he's "partying"
Maybe George is just jealous of all the pussy that Derek gets.

Well, Jeter's stat's have not been exactly going up since his rookie year. But still he's a hell of a player and Steinbrenner is still pissed about last season.

He's no A-Rod, but I'll sign up for a team full of hard-partying losers like him right now.

George is just bored, and in his boredom & infinite wisdow he's worried that his fantasy team is getting complacent. At least this time around, he went after guys like Jeter & Torre, guys with too much pride & class to snap back at him to an extent that would embarass themselves & the team. I don't think George will be in touch with the PI he had following Winfield around in the 80's any time soon.
