1st punk rock show--1986- BLACK FLAG (w/ henry) & Circle Jerks at ST. Augestine church in DC.
to this day that concert was the loudest show i've ever been to.
ok, pfunk at 9:30 club came close.. but Black Flag had the sound system from hell.. Ears rang for almost a week after that show..

1993(?) Rancid in NYC.

I'm not sure on the year but I do know that Rancid was my first punk show, I had been listening to a LOT of 80's punk at that point and at the time Rancid was a newish band, so you gotta figure if the first album got released in 92...

I also remember a Sick of It all show in the same year, right before Scratch the Surface came out, so maybe the Rancid show was actually in 94.

It's funny when you look back, I remember a LOT of the shows I went to back in the day which seem like decades ago when they were in like 1997. Like Dropkick Murphys came down to Connecticut a LOT when they first started out, that was around 97, I got into Vision of Disorder with the album "Vision of Disorder," which was 1996. All these shows feel like I'm so far removed from them that i'm feeling old now.

Butthole Surfers at the Old Ritz in the late '80's. I didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be the best show I ever saw. Gibby Haynes with his psychedelic voice machine and 2 huge projector screens showing sex change operations, accident scenes and cartoons. Great sound. Great visuals. Great performance. Great band.

jratt, I know all too well about the nazi presence at the Airport in A-Town. I grew up there. When BIOHAZARD opened for Kreator in 91 (pre Urban Discipline) all I remember was the WALL and bootprints in my back. I also remember hanging with Kreator and Morgoth backstage for an interview we did for my public access show. Billy from Biohazard was doing push-ups upstairs right over this hole in the floor where you could look downstairrs into ERV'S BYO Club. I will never forget that. I also chucked a toilet out back. Fun times. I gotta find the video tape.

Anyway, first PR show would have to be NOFX, Face To Face and another FAT band which is slipping me at the moment at City Gardens in Trenton. On the way back from that I remember the sign on the Summer Maid Farms dairy was on fire. Nothing like seeing a Maid holding a big package of butter and the whole thing on fire.

There was also The Offspring and Rancid later on that year which was awesome and The Bosstones and a little known new band, H2O opening for them at the end of 94. There needs to be some more punk shows these days. Hot water Music is playing in Brooklyn at the end of March if anyone wants to tag along. I'll be there! They are an amazing band!

My first show was also the Ramones.Isaw them at the already mentioned airport music hall. I;m from that area as well, Easton to be
exact . During the mid eighties to the early nineties that entire area was crawling with skinheads and hey were all white suburban kids with some weird axe to grind.

Everyone thinks I'm 60. I look 30. I act 20, well, maybe 10. As for the early punk shows, my friends and I tried to hit every show we could. We bought the Village Voice, which was at that time our "Bible" and turned to the back where the clubs advertised. I also had a friend who managed the old Palladium on 14th Street(previously called The Academy Of Music) and he would tip us off and even get us in to see groups like The Clash, Costello, Boomtown Rats, The Police and others.
I knew the owner of CBGB's, his name was Hilly. I think I pissed him off once at a Dead Boys show because I threw a beer bottle and he had me removed. Ahh, memories!
And Reeshy,I probably did puke on you. Unlike the "hippies" who loved to get mellow, we did speed and the "dry heaves" were common. Ugh. I feel sick thinking about it.

I think my first show was one of those all day runs at Coney Island High. Murphys Law, Madball, Sub Zero, 25 to Life. Me and my friend would go every weekend to either Coney Island High, CBGBs or the Continental. Of all the bands we saw, Social Distortion was the best. Just fucking loud and hard. Ive seen hundreds of bands and no one has ever come close to them live.

City Gardens in Trenton Shitty Gardens!! I almost forgot about that place.

I think my first show was h20, 25 to life, madball, and biohazard??...somewhere around 93-95. yeah that sounds about right.

Not long after that I saw Into Another in some guy's basement. And watched them eat dinner before they played. Coolest night ever.

Man. I'm struggling with this one. I don't know what to call a true punk show. I saw the first HFStival at RFK in 1993 (it has been somewhere else before that) with X and Iggy Pop, but long after their heydays. The show was also with Matthew Sweet, INXS, Stereo MCs, etc..., though so I don't want to call it a punk show.

I did see Biohazard in '94, but it was with Pantera and Sepultura at an outdoor venue, so that wouldn't seem to count either. More of a metal show.

I guess it would be my first Warped Tour at RFK (inside, not outside) in '97. Sick of It All, Pennywise, Social Distortion, Less than Jake, Suicide Machines, and more. Maybe H20? Suicidal didn't play, though they were on the tour that year.

My first show was actually at a chinese restaurant called the "Fortune Cookie" in Norwalk, CT. Very odd. This was right after the "Anthrax" closed and there wasn't any other venues in CT. We got there early and people were still eating dinner inside and all the punks and hxc crews started showing up and the patrons got nervous. I think some of them left with their dinners half eaten still on the plate. I can say it was probaly the wierdest 1st show for anyone. This was in April of 1991 and I got to see Breakdown. The room was probaly the size of your living room but Breakdown still managed to have a pile-on with a 3 inch high stage. There was another show the next night and Upfront headlined. After that I was hooked.

I unfortunatley missed all the legendary hardcore/punk shows at the Anthrax back in the day. Anyone ever venture up north on I-95 to CT for shows back in the day?

Do all these bands stay on the tour every year or are you thinking of a different year maybe? I saw this show with Suicidal in early 99 i think or late 98 and i remember the names Pennywise, and Less then Jake being there.

The real question here is if ST are considered Punk more then Speed Metal by you freaks.

If you don't count that then I saw Alkaline Trio at the Roseland Ballroom in January(?) of 2004. They kicked so much ass. Reggie and the Full Effect played with them and so did no motive.
